Sat on the sofa looking out the window it's just gone past 9pm and it's getting dark, the leaves are beginning to change colour on some trees as we slip seemingly rapidly towards autumn....
Also noticed this morning at 5:30 it was darker driving to work than 3 weeks back
With what's left of the light nights time to shift up a gear...
That broken outside light get it fixed whilst you can see what your doing and it's not -5°c likewise check air bricks are clear and windows are all still nicely sealed along with doors
Leaking gutter? Ok in summer but come winter a source of damp tracking into the house
Likewise shed / outbuildings roofs that flap of felt will soon be blowing off (must paint my shed this year )
Cars mot got the 6 months extension??.... Great but won't be long till it's needing to be in tip top condition for the cool dark days (serviced it this year?)
That wappy fence post won't stand up to the first autumn storm and the amount of burglaries is up round here with the covid based poor / chancers
Had your gas appliances serviced and any chimneys swept ?
Smoke alarms hoovered and tested?
Does the main water stop cock turn off ok? Before you get a burst pipe and can't shut it off
And emergency torches and rechargable lighting still serviceable or have the batteries died due to the prolonged storage since last winter?
And after a summer of gluttony does the winter coat still fit?
That's without even touching on potential Brexit issues

Yes, thanks for the reminders.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

So true. And if it's something you need a workman in for,do it now! I have a guy booked in to do my fences, spoke to him in mid July, he's booking for September. I emailed him yesterday for updates.

Oh drat! I need those things for the second part of the work, which he hasn't even been able to quote for yet (because he needs to repair my side gate, and I'm not letting him through the house to see the back garden). Thanks for the heads up, Andy.

Timely advice, thanks. Mrs J is getting her teeth attended to at long last! I have sorted all our security/ lights. We have misted glazing panels, and a hinge problem with a upvc door. The last two I could sort myself, but frankly I am doing so much overtime that I would sooner pay, and spend the time fishing!

Snap one good thing about the pandemic as long as it doesn't fall off a cliff in winter

Our roof needs drastic action, along with the other 6 houses in the street. The HA say they'll think about it and let us know First big wind the whole lot's going to end up in Norway.

You could contact your council building inspector. Especially if you think it’s a danger.diamond lil wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 4:46 pm Our roof needs drastic action, along with the other 6 houses in the street.
