Do you have any sources for this information 'cus in my area I believe crime is up, Car crime in particular, if my memory serves me right, about 80%!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take a look at this article which demonstrates my point...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/oct/2 ... me-figures
The article was published Oct 2010 and quotes figures from 12 months prior to June 2010. I think things have changed a lot over the last 6 - 12 months so it would be good to see figures from 2011.
These are also reported crimes figures. I think more people are not reporting crimes as the poice do nothing anyway and very often your excess works out more than the cost of replacing etc any items stolen.

Reported crime is up but the way each force or division within that force records it is down to number crunching if 1 type of crime is going to break the limit for that month it will be changed to fit what they want the numbers to say

So a street robbery will become a theft from person and a violence against person

Burglary may become theft from dwelling and a damage

This keeps the real numbers down to what the hq monkeys want the public to hear

I have noticed that since xmas I am seeing more fights now on a weekend could this be because the young are becoming more frustrated now that the credit crunch is starting to take effect more now that the instant credit as dried up so no new flash gear and the credit cards are maxed out

Hi everyone
I was thinking that currently it is very difficult to defend our homes and selves and stay legal.
But I have come up with the following ideas
1) laser pointer (very cheap 90p ) Health Warning do not point into the eyes and I repeat DO NOT POINT AT THE EYES
2) A very load noise anything over 150 db is very disorientating so rock on AC/DC
also some believe that very low frequency sound >15 hz causes a sense of fear plus a drum beat of 70 beats per mins will also unset some folk
3) A really bad smells will stop most people, the worst is a rotting corpse which has been know to make people puke. So maybe a container with a trip wire that pulls the lid off will deter some folk as well.

Keep up the good work preppers

you could even consider these they are louder than a shotgun i would say. They come on ropes which have them cabletied on to so they can be seperated into singles very easy. For a box that contains 144 was £41 with vat last week. You can buy them from any agricultural shop, just say there for scaring pigeons of off the mazie/ young wheat ect. You have to give id as people missuse them. I have one go off 5m away and one of my ears hurt for a while after wards.

Su,
The article is indeed a little out of date. And worryingly the stats for 2011 do suggest a rise of circa 27% so far mainly due to violent crime and antisocial behaviour. However even after a rise of this magnitude you will still be far less likely to be a victim than 10 years ago. That said it will be of great concern if it continues to rise in the same way over the next 12 months and some areas will be more affected than others.

i came across a great blog a few months ago, it is a police inspector who tells everyone about the joke of political correctness and other issues in the police force. there was an interesting article a few weeks ago about how police are told to report crimes differently if they have had too many of one crime in one month.

the example he gave was someone broke into a shed so they wrote it up as a badger damaging the shed! it sounds unbelievable but here's the link to the web site (you will have to go through his older posts to find the badger story)

those things are good fun used to take them on exercise with the ta leave a length burning in a ditch after attacking a unit location and sit back and watch them stand-to every twenty minutes or so when they went off.

In my (much) younger days as a hunt saboteur it was not unknown for them (rookies they were called) to be nailed to the fence of a particularly nasty "whipper in" overnight before the hunt

We would sit over the other side of the valley laughing as they went off every 20 mins or so and watch as the lights came on etc

Of course the above is no doubt illegal and we never knew who the naughty person was who did such a dastardly deed :D

A story of warning and caution, which I experienced which may be of interest.

Pure fact and in no way to recommended to be done.

I always have a 'Guest Medical - alcohol hand rub 50ml spray in my EDC, BOB, at home/work etc.

After a long day of work, I got into my car and thought clean hands would be a good idea.

I then sprayed the spray but had not checked the direction nozzle.

Sprayed it into my face.
UNBELIEVABLE PAIN, AGONY AND DISORIENTATION/PANIC!
for about ten minutes +

The lesson; never, ever spray this perfectly legal, hand-hygiene product into your eyes. It hurts alot!!!

The reason for posting it here is my thoughts on self-protection. Always be aware of bacteria on your hands and the risks they may pose to you! ;)
