Same with Tesco. I do click and collect because there's more slots for that, but even they are booked up. I'm resorting to late evening trips to Aldi a bit now.diamond lil wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:46 pm Well I'm having to rethink. Because I depend on Sainsbugs to deliver every week, and tonight I see they have nothing after Dec 19th right through into Jan.

I was advised to get the Delivery Pass and paid £20 for 3 months with no delivery fees. I got it because it allowed you to book Christmas slots before they were released to everybody else. Not much help this year though.diamond lil wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:46 pm Well I'm having to rethink. I made mozzarella for the first time today, not a huge prepping thing granted, but it's another skill and something I can make as long as I have milk. I'm going to freeze some of the rennet tablets and have enough citric acid to last a good while. Also made yoghurt from cultures rather than the sachet things and will keep some to start the next batch.

Well done!
Learning to make Mozarella is on my "To Do" list. I understand it can be made from powdered milk. That would make it a great prep to provide some fresh cheese and also cycle through the powdered milk. It isn't clear on the 'web links I have found so far if extra fat is essential. Most recipes are using non-fat dried milk and added cream or standard whole milk. That makes me want to try it with full fat NIDO. (But maybe I had best learn how it works on normal whole milk first

I do my own yogurt but have never had much luck with cheese. I have to admit to giving up quite easily thoughMedusa wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 12:55 pm I made mozzarella for the first time today, not a huge prepping thing granted, but it's another skill and something I can make as long as I have milk. I've listed all my herbs and spices today and noted down what I have. Am going to do a Buy Wholefoods Online order tomorrow to top up. Then I have a 16kg bag of flour to split into smaller bags, vac pack and start processing through the freezer.

Thats really interesting, I might give the NIDO a try at some point. It was really fun to do, although initially I was a bit dubious if it was going to work as it looks very strange until the last couple of steps. My taste testers said its pretty good, I think it needed a little more salt.GillyBee wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 7:17 pm Well done!

Morrisons has 400g NIDO on offer at £3.00 at the moment which is the best price I can find around here. If you qualify for one of their "clubs" (NHS and teachers) then you get another 10% off which brings the cost down to £2.70 a can.
