Cooking:-
Electric hob, microwave and oven Without electricity, cooking and domestic heating gets tough, for me.
Coal effect gas fire that could be used to boil a pan, at a pinch *
Cheap gas barbie with 3 substantial gas bottles.
Little gas camping stove with a dozen or so cartridges.
Home made gallon-can rocket stove.
Tiny collapsible wood fired camping stove + cat litter fuel.
Thousands of matches and dozens of lighters.
* The big issue with non-electric cooking indoors would be real risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
This seems to a big expected risk to those currently struggling in Texas.

We have a battery carbon monoxide alarm for use if we did have to operate with no electricity and also to take if we are ever allowed on holiday again and rent a holiday home.
I doubt the little camping gas stoves are any more risky than our old gas cooker was - but better safe than sorry.

Carbon Monoxide is a serious ,silent killer. Apparently,a good number of deaths in Texas during their bad weather have been down to carbon monoxide poisoning; running generators in the house!!GillyBee wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:15 pm We have a battery carbon monoxide alarm for use if we did have to operate with no electricity and also to take if we are ever allowed on holiday again and rent a holiday home.

CO detectors cost less then 20 quid (for a named brand like Kidd).
If you burn anything indoors, get one...... It could save your life.

As long as indoor burning has a FLUE. We have had members here SERIOUSLY consider indoor barbecues. Obviously contenders for the Darwin Award. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_AwardsForgeCorvus wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 6:26 pm CO detectors cost less then 20 quid (for a named brand like Kidd).

Back on track then. Cooking:
1.Mains fuel
2.wood stove
3.butane stove
4. Trangia
5. Hexi
6 Rocket stove.
Wouldn’t use a barbecue,too much damned smoke,and too big a fire.
