What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

Just setting up a ridiculously large order from Healthy Supplies - lots and lots of nuts and seeds, a fair amount of beans, an organic kombucha drink so I can grow a scoby and start making my own, flavourings (vanilla, organic turmeric) and kilos of salts that will be the start of Christmas hampers.

I think a few of us would like to be on your Christmas list Arzosah. Your Christmas hampers sound like lovely presents

It's only August


We've started to get the kids presents already .. good job as Mrs Andy's fibro flare up has had her signed off work for 4 weeks so far ...



Contininued on the forging local friendships family opposite were trying to get their second car going when I got home.. their jump leads were not man enough for the task my semi industrial jump pack managed to shove enough juice into it to pop the electronic tail gate
The battery was dragging my jump pack too far down to start it but it popped tye boot so he could access the battery which according to my digital tester might be salvageable by a good charge so lent them my big battery charger to bench charge it overnight




Oh and repeat after me... You DO NOT NEED ANY MORE TORCHES YOU DO NOT NEED ANYMORE TORCHES FFS..

Oh yes I've got a new key ring torch cheap led lenser since the aftersales service from Olight has been none existent despite 2 emails and a few comments on their Facebook pages


and a Nebo head torch in the post the rebel at £20 which the identical looking olight is £70 And I've had 2 big Larry's I use at work replaced by Nebo with a couple of emails one after I admitted I dropped it and the other the switch stopped working they didn't even ask for the old ones back just a photo showing the faults and a new one posted out .......

I do "hampers" of useable stuff, or things that I know to be useful (riding gloves for my niece, allergen-free handcream for my sister, a few torches here and there ). The actual order will be placed tomorrow, Thursday.

Well the neighbors fetched my battery charger back without having to ask for it and fetching a box of chocolates... You can't say fairer than that

I do "hampers" of useable stuff, or things that I know to be useful (riding gloves for my niece, allergen-free handcream for my sister, a few torches here and there ). The actual order will be placed tomorrow, Thursday.

Nothing I hate more is "useless" tat at Christmas / birthdays I'd rather some people not bother I'd rather have a pack of biscuits or pants than something that was in the reduced bin the mil got me some strange pot to warm fajitas.. few weeks later made a passing comment about the kitchen been cluttered .... guess what was on top of the bin when she visited next

My MIL, bless her is very elderly and Christmas presents the year before last consisted of a can of de-icer for everyone. It has become a bit of a family joke, but useful none the less.

I tried natural methods on the ant invasion and it did bugger all so today I went to the garden centre and went full chemical warfare

I bought a small electric dehumidifier earlier in the week, and while it definitely is getting moisture out of the air, its not doing enough for the overall humidity. I'm going to have to buy a bigger version before winter gets here, otherwise it could quite miserable in here and my asthma will go to custard.

I have to get my brother to find out what my nieces want for Christmas (and one for birthday in December) as it's been in the news that toys will be in shortage by Christmas. While it's not a 'prep' in the strictest sense, it's a prep on keeping my reputation as the 'nice auntie' Anyone with small children in the family perhaps should be getting their presents in now.

Ebac dehumidifiers everytime you get what you pay for as a child my parents had one in their old house and itd remove a bucket of moisture every night you need to calculate the house size to get a big enough unit

As an additional prep a heppa air filter in your bedroom on low moved to the lounge during the day will catch mould spores

Again not cheap for something like the 3m filtrite type of unit but .....

Those prices are a bit ouch for sure!

I have my eye on a cheaper one which I can get a HEPA filter as an extra to go inside. But I will definitely look at the ebac ones as I like that they are made in the UK. I've got quite a nice list now of recommended companies for dehumidifiers!

Spent an hour today sorting batteries for emergency lighting, torches etc. Also fetched 2 bales of straw and 100kg of layers pellets. Just got to get a sack of feed for the cockatiels tomorrow and whatever supply issues come our way, my birds are sorted. We are carrying plenty of dog and cat food too. In a crisis I don’t want to be concerned about hungry animals.
