Had a run to LIDL and bought a flat each of tinned spaghetti, beans and potatos and some pasta to put away for a rainy day...

Bought a 2008 S10 respirator from ebay, so now need a fairly new filter (they have a life span of 10 years).
Still planning a visit to Makro and the slingshots will have to wait till next week maybe.

Is the S10 the correct size for you as they come in 3 sizes.
When you get the canisters remember the 10 year shelf life is for the plastic bodied ones and only if they are still sealed in the foil wrapper.

Expanding my library after all knowledge is power and with all the community ones getting shut down and the risk of digital resources not being available I think its the smart idea for me.

Agree with that - bit silly prepping for the SHTF with no elect or internet and not having anything you can actually read innit!

Just started to read a book on Root Cellaring, hoping to store some of my veg over the winter this way.
Also bought a book on Preserving so shall be having a good look at that and trying some of the things out.
Just waiting on the Dick Strawbridge book on How to be Sef-Sufficient. Ordered weeks ago but amazon have been out of stock. ummm, I wonder why? ;)

Hopefully tomorrow will be making some gooseberry jam and bakng using some of the eggs. I quite fancy meringue with fresh strawberries from the garden!!!!! :D

Took my 9yr old to forest school today, dig firepit, make fire, cook food, eat food, put fire out, clean up, fill pit.
Leave nothing behind and take only memories away with you.

He loved it and despite years of ACF, TA and other hobbies I learned new ways of doing things. Knowledge is power...

Made gooseberry jam today and started reading '365 soups' - well I need to sort out what to do with the bean stock I'm building up!
Soup recipe anyone?

Yes, it's (hang on while I go get the proper title)...
New Covent Garden Food Co " A Soup for Every Day. 365 of our favourite recipes".

I love soup and been mulling about 'The Soup Bible' but saw someone recommending this Covent Garden one. I'm not well up on their soups as I generally make my own, but I believe they are quite popular. Of course, it's a bit of a gimmick going through the calendar (each page has the date on!) but on the other hand it means you can find produce in season. October has lots of recipes for squash/pumpkin as well as some odd ones like parsnip & apple.
It's a huge book, £25 new but I paid under a tenner on ebay.

ps: todays soup is Spinach and Nutmeg!
