I did a big Aldi shop yesterday to top up some stocks. I also picked up a USB charged head torch: https://www.aldi.co.uk/rechargeable-run ... 3544669400. It will live in the car where it can be charged up as necessary and will be a useful back up light.
Bought some wellies! I got these: https://www.shoezone.com/Products/Dunlo ... 4061-79324. They are very warm and very comfortable. The fleecy insides are surprisingly supportive. They are the most expensive wellies I have ever bought, so they better stay comfy! I bought them while out shopping with Mum and she kept trying to get me to try on the next size up because despite me being 43, she still thinks I'll grow into things
What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9
ordered 2 20 litre ex army water carriers today, from https://preppersshop.co.uk/ for £25.95 delivered, thought id give them a go and do away with the 2 litre pop bottles i have water in and also save abit of room,i.e. 10 2ltr pop bottles =1 of these,if that makes sense and the local infant school asking for empty 2ltr pop bottles to make a green house for the kids,so i can donate mine to them for that cause
Remember the rule of the 7 P's, proper planning and prepperation prevents piss poor performance...

On a couple of threads recently, we've referenced how vegans seem to be ... unpleasantly evangelical, lets say? The wife of one of my nephews has had a medical recommendation to eat vegan for a month or so, to deal with a bit of an allergy in her new baby (don't ask me about the specifics of that, I've no idea).
I'm writing because the recommendation has finished now, and she had a few products unopened that she passed on to me, as a vegetarian. I opened the "cheese" today, its this stuff: https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/p ... /305972822 £2.60 for 200g, so not hugely more expensive than say, feta.
The thing is, it's disgusting I don't eat much processed food - the most processed things I eat are probably jars of pesto and tins of baked beans, so most processed foods eg supermarket pizzas, taste awful to me. If this is what vegans are eating, no wonder they're grouchy.
This thing is a substitute for cheese: but it's 24% coconut oil. I'm really sad too, because it's made in Thessaloniki, and the Greeks are still in a fairly bad place economically. But this won't get them out of it

I didn't know Greece grew coconuts
How is importing a cheese substitute from there thats made from a product from even further away going to have a lower carbon footprint then Cathedral City (made in Cornwall from West Country milk) ??

I'm pretty sure they don't
I'm absolutely sure it doesn't! I think it's a complete con, to be honest - my niece obviously did too! I use pure coconut oil in cooking sometimes, half and half in cakes with butter, and it's lovely, though those airmiles are still killers. I use a couple of jars a year, nothing regular. How is importing a cheese substitute from there thats made from a product from even further away going to have a lower carbon footprint then Cathedral City (made in Cornwall from West Country milk) ??
Greece, though, I love Greece. Greece doesn't particularly love me, I've had a few troubles there, legal and otherwise, but the history just grabs me every time

My preps to be listed are more purchases, sadly. The turbo lighter we talked of, plus a bottle of the fuel. A toothbrush holder made of bamboo - I was reviewing my "bug out to hotel" bag, the washbag of which doubles for "hospital bag" and "actual holiday bag" and remembered how tricky it is without a toothbrush holder. Don't one made of plastic, so here we are. A spool of candle wick - after the turbo lighter convo, I was looking at how to make oil lamps, as I've got a lot of oil put by, but not the other makings. I can wing the others, but not the wick. And lastly, a 500ml glass jar of organic coconut oil - much, much cheaper per 100g than the crap I was mentioning this week upthread. Five items, £39.32.
I'm also preparing my lovely jumbo cord to make a Christmas hanging that's actually a blackout blind, though it won't register as such

After Monday I have 8 whole days joined-up-together-away-from-work! Woohoo! So… a day in the greenhouse,a day cutting and stacking a humongous haul of firewood ( this will be Winter 23/24), a day brewing hooch and making chutney and pickles, a day with the toolbox doing general repairs etc. and two days fishing. Not forgetting that my days will NOT be starting at 4.30 in the sodding morning!
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Although I don’t drink much, I’ve ordered a few bottles of single malt to keep on storage.
