Which raises the question of whether euro pallets especially go up in value and are better sold as pallets rather than just broken up.

Mr J was somewhere between bemused at my bravado and facepalm at the thought of his next project. We are even considering starting to sell planters and benches on facebook as a pocket money sideline. Busting up those 4 pallets was a breeze at about 5 minutes each (Nails still in) Great stress reliever too.

Going back 20 years or so a friend and I did just that , planters and so on. He had access to a huge number of pallets some of which were the long ones and between us we made loads , enough to fill the van , roofrack and trailer and took them to car boots and so on. Took ages to sell the things and they filled up my house in the meantime. Still best of luck if you try it. On a facebook woodworking group I'm in some make bird boxes and tables out of hardwood offcuts and say they sell for anywhere between £60 and £100 . Depends on the area I think.

I have 3 pallets in my garage waiting for me to summon up the courage to dismantle them. I was going to use the crowbar but I think my life has just been improved by seeing this "pallet buster" tool!

My 4 pallets now denailed. Took a stupid amount of time, but again very satisfying. The nail pulling groove in the tool was useless. Claw hammer wasn't up to much either, 'cos some of the nails are stupidly long and tight and some were bent over.

There's a case to be made for sacrificing some wood and saving time by dismantling with a power saw instead of the busting tool ( or as well as)

4 Pallet Yield, after some wastage was 38 strips totalling 4.1 square metres. That's equivalent to 90% of my shed roof. Yayyyyy!
I've seen various pallets at £2 a pop on gumtree.

I'm definitely obsessed. LOL

Depending on the nail type your best off making a tressle or a few bricks in a row flip the boards nail point up and tap them back via the pointy end through the surface to expose the heads fully do you can use the claw on the hammer / bar to pry them out failing that just knock them off with a slitting disc on a grinder

Some pallets are made in standard sizes, the ones I tend to encounter are Euro's (in heavy and light) and 40x48 (1mtr x1.2mtr), heavy Euro's and 40x48 are worth (around here) between £2 and £5 with the lower end being if you're selling to a supplier...... The problem is those guys want to buy bulk unless you bring them to the yard.

A lot of stuff comes on single use pallets, these are the ones you really want as the timber is less knocked about and you don't have to unpick repairs which tend to consist of mismatched planks (sometimes with random clusters of bent and/on snapped off nails) fixed on with insane numbers of nailgun spikes.

I also save, straighten and sort the nails........ Sad, I know

It's been some years since I sold any pallets so I'm completely unaware what they go for now. The ones I sold were the euro sized ones you describe but unfortunately the building industry seems to use a variety of odd sized pallets , at least from a resale point of view. I get less nowadays but most end up as firewood anyway. The pallets my friend and I made the planters out of came from an engineering factory and there were some odd sized ones some being IIRC over 6ft long. Another friend who also worked in engineering came round with some pallets from Japan, I think , and said he'd been told they were hardwood. They were indeed hardwood or rather woods as each pallet was constructed out of a number of species. There was oak , what appeared to be maple and several reddish tropical woods. Made him a very nice stool out of the oak.
Oh and I've saved and staightened nails before now too.

the pallets that plaster boards come on i use to strip down and build my log sheds out of,there fantastic for that with there 3x2 lengths and the 6x1 and 4x1 boards and the amount of work going on up dating council houses around the nearest town there are always a couple leaning against a skip somewhere waiting to be picked up
