Long time lurker, first time poster.
Have always been a low level prepper but the last few years have re-ignited my interest and the last couple of weeks have, like most on here, kicked things into overdrive.

Water, food, fuel etc. All doable to varying degrees but the prospect of fallout complicates things a tad.
Considered an allotment but had one previously and suffered thefts. Can't see the point of putting many hours in only to have it nicked at the last minute and that was when there was plenty in the shops. Having it all glowing gently isn't much use either. Currently would rather pull an extra shift or three to bring in the cash for longer term goods.
Am considering investing in some vertical gardening as my tiny garden doesn't allow for much else.

Yes there is a lot of info on the 'net now about vertical gardening. I have seen pallets used to make vertical strawberry planters. Dwarf root stock trellis trained fruit trees are good for small garden spaces too. One of the main issues seems to be water but if you can get that sorted that you're good. If space is limited then just concentrate on salad bits. If you're happy to by foods, then consider a dehydrator and a vacuum sealer. Several of us folks on here own this combo, (there's a whole thread and area dedicated to it on this forum,) so you can preserve food when you can afford to buy it and it doesn't rely on a freezer to keep it. It can be fairly space saving too. Again, ensuring that you have a water supply or some water stores is needed with this to be really viable in the event of a serious issue. Supplement with a good store of tinned produce for the things that you cannot dehydrate and freeze.

Well Vetinari seemed a bit pretentious!
Wish I'd gone commercial with vertical years ago but as with everything life got in the way.
Dehydrator etc might be an investment if we make it through this war. For now it's a small amount of pre-prepared dehydrated stuff. Although the other night I was weighing up the prospect of starting a dehydrated food company.

A dehydrated food company might be a nice little earner, thats true. No harm in doing a bit of prep work towards it while the crisis is still on
