Since my dad passed away (May 2018) I’ve gotten quite involved in the whisky community - tastings, blogs and YouTube reviews.
As a result I’ve built quite a collection of whisky - most are open but I still have a fair few bottles that are sealed for a rainy day.
So I value whisky and should imagine would be a good resource to barter in a SHTF world.
What do you value most?

Good whisky would be something I'd miss too. I can brew and know how to distill but it would take generations to be good enough to make a 16 yo Lagavulin

Exactly, although small household still are possible, for “essential oils”, never tried myself and the health implications of getting it wrong can be severe.British Red wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 2:47 pm Good whisky would be something I'd miss too. Lagavulin 16, don’t have a bottle at the moment, although I do have the 8 YO and the 11 YO Guinness cask finish. My preference is Campbeltowns - Glen Scotia mainly.
I think any spirit would be a barter-able commodity - particularly a neutral grain spirit like vodka.

I'm mainly an Islay man - but she me other islands and a few Highlands - plus the better Irish malts. As you say though, a decent luxury item. Alcohol itself is vital - a superb solvent, the base of tinctures, and excellent preservative and a fuel. Leaving all of that aside, no alcohol, no vinegar!
