If I lost my stash tomorrow,I would adapt. We would adapt. I AM a survivor. So is my wife, she is one tough bird!I...
A selfish survival instinct was drilled into me, and it doesn’t leave.... I’ve got the knowledge. That’s worth more than ‘stuff’ anytime. With a sharp edge,a way to light a fire ,and some fishing kit ( and I have the knowledge to improvise that if needed) we could work around trouble.
Jansman, you have something beyond preps. You have the Positive Mental Attitude. And your wife is inspiring.
You are hereby jointly appointed Forum Life Coach.
I am no life coach, believe me. My wife particularly, will always tell anyone to” just get on with it” in fact ,her stock saying is,” put your big girls pants on  “.She is as hard as nails. Attitude is where it’s at. Accept the situation, and adapt.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

We are what we are. Hard to change fundamental attitude after decades of self training. Some changes, and some TRYING and practicing, but it's a battle not to keep returning to type. Me. I'm a worrier and when I worry I'm like a rabbit in the headlights. Oh hum.... All we can do is TRY and cheer each-other on.

I think we do cheer each other on,or at least encourage one another here.Indeed ,we are what we are , which makes us a diverse bunch. It wouldn’t be interesting if we were all the same! You can’t help being a worrier , but it won’t help being on a site that deals in disaster planning   My brother, who has had more than his fair share of sh#t in his life,is very much an optimist .One of his stock sayings is , “ if you worry you die,if you don’t worry you die.So why worry?”

LOL. Disaster? TEOTWAWKI is but a mere inconvenience. It does help to be here. Keeping engrossed in this forum gives me a sense that I'm doing things, while really, there's real stuff I SHOULD be doing. Being here is an interlude to real life. But now I get too deep.

Like Kassandra, I see dreadful futures, clear as day. Like watching myself or the world careen to oblivion in one way or another. The Trump 4 years, I watched world news constantly. Then similar with covid, and still with all that is going on in the world, I'm still transfixed. Getting a few hours in the garden, planning for TEOTWAWKI is respite :) .

OMG. That was my Beloved Dad's saying, almost verbatim, passed to him by his Mum. "You die if you worry: You die if you don't: So why worry". He checked out at 93, cheerful and happy with his lot, right to the end.

It’s easy to get engrossed in bad news. I check it everyday, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Prepping or survivalism can soon become all- consuming if you are not careful. Cody Lundin ,the American Survival teacher has a saying- Be prepared ,not scared. He also encourages his readers to live a full life and not let the thoughts of what ‘might’ happen to consume them.Another of his sayings is “what you dwell upon ,you become.”

I prep because I am a country boy. My wife is a country girl - we were brought up in the same village ,with parents who had gardens, animals, fished and hunted. That’s not prepping,it’s normal, how we rock.Until I found sites like this ,I didn’t realise that our way of life had a label!

Watch the news, take note,by all means. Do what you have to. But in between, enjoy the sunshine, smell the flowers, walk the dog ,watch a comedy, laugh, make love, or whatever makes you smile and chill out. :D

I’ve just dropped on this thread and am glad that I did, it made me realize that there is a big ‘gap’ in my prepping which I’m ideally placed to solve. My preps in this area consist of:

Sawyer Mini Filtration System which is small and seems designed for camping.

A few Oasis chlorine tablets (now over two years old).

180 Cleenil Sanitizing tablets (again over two years old).

I think that I read somewhere that these types of tablets became less and less effective over time.

I have three water features/pond in my garden which are usually full except during a dry spell and living ‘in the hills’ am quite close to a few springs. I think that I should buy something a bit more efficient and have seen things like Berkleys. Price not an issue and I have room for something this size.

Any recommendations please.

I've been eyeing up the British Berkefeld ones here https://doulton.com/go-portable/all-por ... er-systems but will have to convince t'other half and find somewhere to put it before I can get one.
Being urban I suspect it will be standpipe and bowsers here if a problem hits. If those go down then I will need to be a full survivalist not a prepper as it would have to be a major TEOTWAWKI to knock things down to streams and rainwater within London.

Hi GillyBee

This man has tested a variety of filters and one of the cheapest seemed to be the best. But all may not be as well as they first appear - see the comment by Xingwei Liu and a few of the others

There is quite a lot to take in so I'll watch it again
