Got a desktop now, the laptop hinge died and I traded it in for this. I'm glad it isn't just me who is trying to cut down. This is WAR!

I don't know if this is any use, but they seem to have a wide range of lamps for a range of different prices: http://www.hurricanelamps.co.uk/

And you could always take the bread maker with you and make bread at work. If they ask just say that you're making lunch and it has to be fresh

I have used paraffin and gas lights back in the past , the MIL had a static caravan without mains power & we took the kids for holidays. It gives a nice soft light and you can add stuff to paraffin to make it smell sweeter.

Great post, do you have any odea of how much paraffin an average Hurricane lamp uses in say an hour?

Also, what can you add to them to make them smell nicer?
