I pretty much standardised yy batteries to using AA rechargeable. I opted for Eneloop batteries, good power and they don't discharge when left unused. Put them in a drawer and a year later they are still pretty much fully charged. Lot of USB powered charges on the market these days so ideal to plug into a small solar panel. I like power banks too and again easily solar charged but the ones with a built in solar charger are not up to much so don't rely on them to charge from flat, they will but take an age. As Red said you can get D cell adaptors to use AA, you can get battery boxes to make up your own power bank, lots of options for mobile power these days and cheap compared to ten years ago.

I had some as a kid that built up like a Russian doll a to c to D and I also had some 4xd to 6v lantern battery

There are actually two types. One type is a simple sleeve and converts 1AA to one D cell

The mother in law accidentally spent £3k+ by accidentally buying the FILs list he'd add things to compare and or show her. Say 4 different washing machines which do you like? She accidentally bought the lot on his card Amazon were very good when she rung him whilst he worked away panicking

Apart from tidying up the communal areas that the useless Edinburgh Council have forgotten about, I might go looking for a camp bed.

It’s technically not prepping although it could come up under BOB stuff so does anyone have any suggestions?

I quite like the idea of the fishing bed/seat. Robens used to do a bed with adjustable legs, it’s that type of thing I was looking for.
