The views I have are spectacular and takes just under 15 minutes to drive if you dont have any visiting folk going for a scenic drive and dont know the twists and turns slowing you down.
I'm going to get an OS Map of my area and plan the walk to see how long it takes and scout for other resources along the way.
In my immediate area I have
1) Four small supermarkets(Asda/Tesco/Iceland/Aldi)
2) An abbotoir with attached butchers at the end of the road.
3) A Wilkinsons
4) Numerous other little local shops.
Nearest surplus store is a trek down to Swansea but looking to get a sewing machine and start creating odd bits and pieces of a useful/tactical nature(learnt to sew at 9years old - thanks to my grandmother).

I find the idea of actually mapping resources quite appealing.Within 5 mins walk I have a supermarket , pharmacy, off licence, health centre,Market garden, allotments, woodland, river, brook, and a leisure centre. It's a very interesting idea.

Re: Sources in YOUR Area.
A few years ago a large supermarket had a glitch in the computer system and their normal delivery of stock did not appear. Within the space of an hour, the only thing left on the shelves was frozen turkey. In a SHTF scenario it would be a waste of my time going to a large supermarket where you are likely to get precious little and will get trapped in a supermarket car park for your troubles. I'm heading for the small "round-the-corner" shops that folk are likely to overlook in their panic.

Isn't it ridiculous how vulnerable we have let ourselves become?

Re: Sources in YOUR Area.
As I was out doing the school run I started to take note of sources in my area.
I have within walking/cycling distance 2 Tesco express and opposite one of those an esso/shell petrol station with small shop. I pass a small lake with private angling club fishing rights.
Slightly further away a supermarket, and beyond that another Tesco express.
If I venture into the more difficult areas by me there is an independent grocers, butchers, bakers and a small newsagents (as well as chip shops, chinese etc)
On the rural land nearby there are springs (which I must explore more and find the source) and numerous wild plum trees, blackberry, elderberry, hosehip etc etc.
Does anybody have any advice on finding the source of the springs?

To find the source of any watercourse, just keep walking upstream.
