Sainsbury's mash is good and cheap

It's one hell of a price on line £160 for a 20kg bag one site

That's just daft. If you buy premium brand, Idahoan, in sachets, it's £9.17/kg or £183 for 20kg

Exact same product 50% more at Sainsbury

But go for Asda regular brand, it's less than half that price.

is that 20kg bag ONE big bag?

Looking for somehwere to get powdered mash - pref in bigger packs. Anybody got any ideas?

I've eaten a lot of powdered mash in my time - mainly because if I buy potatoes they go off before I use them all. By FAR the best brand is Idahoan. It comes in packets and one packet will serve two people for one meal. It's head and shoulders above the rest of the market though, in my extensive experience.

I buy mine from Amazon in boxes of 12 packs - they also do flavoured which is exceptionally good too.

Thanks everybody, I'll try some of that stuff itsy as amazz is easiest for me - husband not driving just now . I find it easier for shepherds pie and duchesse pots which we like

Ordered another 16 cans of gas for the bistro stove.. finally found a supplier not willing to take the Micky on price ) delivery charges for the butane and propane mix £5 for 4 cans and £7 something for delivery so I ordered enough to make the postage worth while saw some in a shop out of town but never made it back would cost me more than £8 to drive there and back .....

They look slightly different to the generic butane ones they have a pressure release valve and what looks like pre weakened sealing so they can vent off

Was never a fan of the bistro stove but the recent availability of butane AND propane cartridges has made me tolerate them nothing worse than been on a building site at 7am below freezing and unable to get a brew on as the butane has frozen ..... Now you might snigger at it but in a grid down and a very cold kitchen / garden shed / balcony you don't want the stress and tears of being unable to secure your morning caffeinated drink fix

that and Mrs a will begrudgingly use them as she "doesn't like gas" hence the home electric cooker .. and the insecurity of the electrical grid I have maxed out on off grid kit to cushion any loss of electrical supply... She's not a fan of the jet boil think the roar of gas scares her . Or it's a ploy to make me get her a brew on

She's a chef by trade ,,. she stuck her head in a gas oven in the past tried to light it and it went woof singing her eyebrows

I got a new bistro 3 stove seems ok bigger pan support different burner better wind shield and it's not rusty like my old one due to lack of use dumped In the shed . that and seals perish with age so a new one should be nice and safe ..

After 30 years with a propane gas cooker I won't use an electric one . We even had a wee bistro stove for when the big cylinder outside froze - wasn't the gas it was the regulator valve thingy, it froze up in deep cold. I don't think it's wise being all-electric.

This week's preps have been buying us thermal tops, M&S as advised by you lot Also mashed tatties - think they might be hard to get later on after this dry summer.

Usually around 12-18 months, but I still use even when they're out of BB4 as it's dehydrated so will be fine.

I can't stand mash and I've no idea why instant ot real..... Better as chips or roast potatoes
