I’ve done half a day of work today, which is basically twice that of the kids I work with    I am going fishing tomorrow ,and I’ll be monitoring the presence of game etc. just in case the future goes South.Mind you,I’ve been told to go where there are people! :( Don't know what she means ? Doing some serious home brewing at the moment. During Winter I use aquarium heaters to maintain optimum temperature. That uses electricity though. So I am taking advantage of the temperature now and getting some bulk storage sorted.

As it gets dark of an evening,we have been playing about with battery powered LED lights in our living space. We are very impressed! As it’s a proper weekend this week ( two days together! ) - for me, anyway -we are going to have a go with the Kelly Kettle, and the brick rocket stove on the yard - sorry, patio  - along with vacuum flasks, just in case we have to. Back in 2016, we lived in a fishing camp in Spain for six months, and the Kelly Kettles were standard kit ,so it’s nothing new. Just needs refreshing. ;) Mrs J even suggested that we use the millbank bag and Sawyer filter and use the water from the rain tanks. What a woman! :D Well, you never know.

Next year’s vegetable seeds are sorted ,but I need to nail a few sacks of seed compost as they go on sale. Along with BBQ fluid, which is basically, lamp oil. And more sugar,to keep brewing!
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

I've been doing more batch cooking for the freezer today ad made a crumble which won't last to be frozen!
when it comes to catastrophic events, we never know when the day before is the day before. So we prepare for tomorrow

Mainly tins - soup (hasn't THAT gone up in price!), butter beans (for cassoulet), some frozen stuff and some M&S lemon mayonnaise which sounds delicious s and which I couldn't resist. The fact they are now selling M&S stuff is now a bonus!
Is there a coupon code for that?
Not worried about powering the whole house, just eating hot food, getting a brew, seeing through the dark, and staying warm.

Just booked my flu and covid booster. I'm a bit nervous about having them at the same time (seems to be one in each arm), but given my university is going back to face to face teaching pretty entirely, and students are germ magnets, I could do with the protection.

Buying a new microwave, decided to do without one but they seem to be cheapest way to cook. Then today I cooked a ton of lamb from the freezer now while we're still on a fixed tariff. Will cost less in the long run to microwave it rather than cook on the hob when prices are higher. Think I might stock up on bacon next, I think that might go short at some point.

Microwave is typically 800 watt ie 0.8KW. So if you run it for an hour that's 0.8KW hours. Electricity is currently about 27p per KW hour on variable I think, so that's 0.8 x 27p = 21.6p per hour. But the microwave cooks in a short time, eg 1 portion frozen salmon, 3.5 minutes.
21.6p /60 x 3.5 = 1.26p.
I can't compare that with your hob without a lot more info, but I suspect it would cost more. Couldn't be much less, if I calculated it right.
Compare that to putting a pie in a 2.6KW oven with 45 min cook time and 15 min warmup. That's 2.6 x 27 = 70p.

Was listening to a segment on Radio 2 today and yes, definitely microwave is the cheapest. Electric oven is a big NO!

How about a combination microwave oven / grill 🤪 my parents have a fancy Samsung one it's bloody good for pizzas or pies as it doesn't leave the base / pastry stodgey cost a bit but suppose with the leccy bill it'll soon offset itself granted it will use more than a bog standard microwave but less than a big oven
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Nah I just needit to defrost and heat stuff Andy. Gas cooker - but I do a lot of slow stews on the hob, 2-3 hours simmer. So this way they'll just need a couple minutes heating through on the microwave.
