Hi preppers I need advice please. We want an alarm for our back gate that will let us know when our neighbours are wandering around in our garden There's a path round the back that is shared access to the wheelie bins through my garden so I can't legally stop them - but every time I look out the back window one or other of them is sashaying down my path, must be half a doz times a day. Also seen their friends come round the back and along my path to their back door!! Then on Monday next door on the other side went away on holiday, and yesterday I see him next door going in their gate (not shared access) and having a good nosy around their garden She is in her 80s and just nosy but he is def creepy and I don't like him.
I have got plans to privatise our garden and fence off that path but that will be for next year if we stay here. For now, I just want to know how many times a day they're in and out and what they're doing. I can't stand at the kitchen window all day watching, so wondered if there was any device that would sound a bell or buzzer in the house when that back gate is opened or when one of them walks down the path. What would I look for? I don't want anything fancy that works on apps etc as we don't use iphones and the laptop isn't always on, just a simple infra red beam or something that alerts us. Any ideas?

Might need to make it a little rain cover though
And if there's plenty of cats round might need some careful placement/ masking of the lense

Ah, I saw things like that but the "doorbell" tag put me off, I thought it was one of these Ring things and I don't want that. Only one cat comes around here and not very often so that's ok. TY Andy.

I can't help on models available as Andy has, but I'm wondering if you want the alarm/bell to sound *outside* your house as well, so that they know you know? This mix of shared/private space sounds pretty toxic, Lil, plus you've seen the neighbour being creepy, I'm not surprised you don't like it.

Although Andy's joking about arkwrights Bell maybe that is the best idea? If it tinkled everytime someone opens the gate it may discourage them from using it so often? Perhaps.

- was just talking to the husband about this.. picturing himnextdoor creeping along that path then a hellish racket erupting at ear level, hidden in the apple tree. My god it would be better than the telly But he's 76 and might drop dead........ maybe best not! Plus I think the wife is the kind who would trigger it more just to be smart, she's got form in this village which I didn't know about until lockdown ended and I started going to the hall for coffee mornings etc. Talked to people and found out she fell out with almost everybody and was even flung out of the Bowling Club and the Village Hall Tea Committe... Oh my god the sheer awfulness of it all
