Hey, I have a Maglite 3 D cell LED torch/flashlight that takes 2x D batteries - it's a beast and it's awesome. I bought it on eBay in perfect condition for £36.
I'm looking for buy a second and have seen this one used:
But it's a bit smaller than mine by a few cm. The one pictured above is 27-28cm but my one is 30-31cm.
Ultimately I'm trying to find out what lumens the pictured one is and how much they are to buy, to see if this second hand one is a good deal. It's around £15 to buy which seems a bargain as it's in a similar very good condition.
I've looked at various models online and some mini-Maglite's look the same but they are just 16-17cm so it's not a mini.
Does anyone know what this one might be? I'm thinking it might be a 2 D version.
Any Maglite Experts here...?

Yup looks like a 2D. Personally I'd leave that one and get another 3D (rare as rocking horse) or 4D and replace the bulb with the LED upgrade. You then have a totally reliable very bright torch and batteries last forever with the LED. It's heft may also be advantageous.

When I get home I'll sling a tape measure over my 2d cell
As much as I like them they've dropped into the shtf pile of torches that'll do the job if needed from edc status... They just don't have the output of torches 1/10th of their size any more... I do keep a 4d next to my bed for investigating things that go bump in the night

I did think about getting another one like mine, but it's quite heavy. This new one will be for my wife's bug out bag, so a slightly smaller one (not that any of them are exactly small), might suit better.Nurseandy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 11:55 am Yup looks like a 2D. Is the 2D "bad"?

Indeed, but I'm thinking that the 3D and 2D could be a good defense unit whilst bugging-out, as we can't carry manchettes or AK-47s around in the UK.Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 12:25 pm I do keep a 4d next to my bed for investigating things that go bump in the night
Re: Any Maglite Experts here...?
The 2d's not "bad" it's just (as Yorkshire andy says) very dated and can't be upgraded to an LED so you're stuck with the not very bright incandescent bulb.
With regards to your wife using maglites - if you use rechargeable batteries they are considerably lighter. However it may be better to consider a ridiculously powerful torch such as an olight warrior. Size of a Cuban cigar and blindingly bright. If she shone it into someones eyes they would genuinely be blinded for a few minutes (I know, I tried it on myself). Ample time for her to leave, better than getting into a test of strength?

Thanks for the prompt reply. As with all these things, £ is a factor. I'm seeing £15 for this 2D vs £90 for the Warrior (perhaps £65 for a mint 2nd hand one).Nurseandy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 12:52 pm The 2d's not "bad" it's just (as Yorkshire andy says) very dated and can't be upgraded to an LED so you're stuck with the not very bright incandescent bulb. I also believe 2Ds can be LED - in fact there are other pictures of the torch that definitely show it as "MAG-LITE LED".

Yeah, the olights are a bit gucci.
Worth investigating the LED conversions then. I know when I converted mine they required a minimum of 4.5v (i. e. Three batteries). That was a good few years ago so things may have moved on?

I've plumped for the trustfire mc1 and mc3
Very close to olight but much less cash.. and they come with spare orings
