Only for emergencies and the odd time I'm out for a few hours on a really cold windy day (I don't do hill walking these days as my knees are wrecked).
I did have some cheap softshell ones but they are a bit big now.
I ordered some Regatta softshell ones but they were too tight, even though I have other trousers from them, same size that fit ok.
Got some from Mountain Warehouse. Called Mens Winter Trek Stretch Trousers. I thought they'd be softshell, but they are actually two separate layers. There is a polyamide (nylon) outer that seems pretty tough and reasonably windproof (put it over your mouth tight and try breathing in), and has 2 way stretch ie 1 direction only, which is along the width not length. There is a separate lining of thin fleece. Overall the feel is a bit better than my old thick softshell ones. The fit is good, slightly on the generous size, certainly compared to the Regatta Geos.
They come in 3 lengths and have zipped rear and thigh pockets.

Winter trousers
Re: Winter trousers
I've got a few different winter trews and the latest addition to this fashion collection is

I don't get out winter camping anymore but I'm down the road from the Brecon Beacons so they'll be handy for day walks or winter gardening. Truth be told from a thermal point of view they are no better than longjohn bottoms but its easier just to put on one pair of trousers.

Re: Winter trousers
I own two pairs of the waterproof stretch trousers as I bought some recently. A must buy, I am very pleased with them.Frnc wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 8:28 am Only for emergencies and the odd time I'm out for a few hours on a really cold windy day (I don't do hill walking these days as my knees are wrecked).

Re: Winter trousers
The ones I sent back were claimed to be waterproof. These aren't. I didn't really want waterproof, just reasonably windproof and a fleecy inner.Paracord1945 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 9:40 amI own two pairs of the waterproof stretch trousers as I bought some recently.
