I always buy a capon, they seem to be just the right size for us and taste lovely. Re turkey I'm not jansman  but my pal up north who is in the farming community got told the big birds will cost around £140 this year so she's having half a lamb instead for the same price.

Stuffs going through the roof in price this year. Turkey in particular. No problem to me,as I wouldn’t give one space,as I hate the damn things!

Now anyone sensible enough to buy a capon ( cockerel- capon has been out of date for forty years  ) is a VERY sensible person! Excellent quality and yield. Me? It’ll be a piece of beef.

Thank you!

Back in the day ,a ‘capon’ was a cockerel that was given an ‘injection’ of a sex - inhibitor in the earhole  so that weight - making would be more important than ‘doing - a-job’

Now back then ,a cockerel could hit as much as 14lb!!! Since the law changed ( about 1982) cockerels may hit only 11lb maximum. Given that feed is an issue - quality/ cost - it’s my thought that the maximum weight will only be 9lb ish,as it has been the last couple of years.

No problem there though. The meat/ taste is superb! Why,why,oh why, folks want turkey baffles me. They are bloody awful things.Mind you,I would say that,as spending night times dressing the damned things doesn’t help. :(

Used my clip-on magnifier this morning. I got some gloves that had stupid scratchy labels on the inside. I bought some unpickers a while back, probably to do this. Got the labels off cleanly in seconds. My eyes are damaged, so my vision is poor for detail with prescription reading glasses. The clip-on boosts them by x 2.75. Glad I bought it. Had to wait ages for the Germans to make it, so the distributor sent me four cheaper ones free while I was waiting.

Adjusted my thermostat down half a degree last night, as heating was about to come on, and it's not really necessary yet. Maybe in another week or two I might have it on for a bit.

2°C this morning. Still resisting pressure to turn the oil heating on :|
Found a guy on gumtree selling off some coal before he moves house at £15 for 50kg. Bought 125kg yesterday, getting another 125kg tomorrow. In open bags, the boot of my rental car may never be the same again

Got on the phone to the doctors yesterday when I heard the news about blood supplies at a critical level..asking for Tranexamic Acid tablets ..they help clot your blood ..with Mr GG with leukemia and me with vonwillebrands ( haemophilia) we are a right pair and doc obliged so we have a nice stash with a good date on them
Went to dentist both of us have to go to specialist one who deals with bleeding disorders ..new young girl ..both of us had apps ...she took off when I handed the medical forms in and the usual lady we see came in laughing after about 10 mins
She said the young girl was out of the building and sat in her car shaking and upset ...
She had never seen anyone with leukemia and fair enough Mr GG looks awful at the moment i get it.. but shed only ever read of vonwillebrands once in her life and never thought she'd meet anyone with it...she was terrified to find both on one day with a married couple 😂😂😂😂
Made my day anyhow!

You have to take your fun where you can find it

I'm glad you got the Tranexamic tablets - didn't realise you had such a crucial medical problem yourself, GeeGee, as well as Mr GG. I'm more what we used to call a "creaking door" set of problems - they're very loud, but not very serious :P  case in point this week, I've been working too hard on cleaning the floor in the living room so I can put down some more insulation, and the chronic fatigue has had a little bit of a flare-up. So I retreated to sedentary, non-prepping hobbies (genealogy - my 3 x great grandfather was an ironmonger who married an ambitious woman, and his older sons started a business). I can't push through this stuff any more, I wish I could.
