Ok just rang the local gas shop to try and buy a new bottle as i want a new one i have one for the bbq a propane clip on regulator so i thought hmm i get one ot keep nearer the hosue for use with the camping stove through the kitchen window if you get the idea i can put the bottle out there or in the back porch and ru nthe tube in to the kitchen well they just told me calor have now put a stop on issue of new bottles as they have run out and it is exchage only anyone else had this , so now i am hunting round to try and find a shop that sells just new bottles hmmm

Have you got a flo gas agent near by ?

By clip on propane I'm guessing you mean 'patio gas' which is over priced for a sexy bottle the pressure gauge is a gimmick imo you can't get a accurate reading from a liquid gas ...

Hi andy thanks for the ideas , i did think fb but the price they want is silly , the reg i am ordering is this type as i already have 1 14kg bottle but it is down in the bbq area and i do not wantto be humping it round so figurre get another for near the house or in the garage ,the reg pops on then you push the swicth to lock it , or do you think the screw in type would be better just the other bottle has the push on type , ok andy picking your brains you think i should go for a standard screw on reg 37bar type and use propane , it is for the camping kitchen stove a double burner with grill thanks for advice

I'd go standard basic regulator or 2 they tend to freeze up in really cold weather ( the regulator)..

I wouldn't bother with a gauge if you want to know how much gas is in get a set of luggage scales

Bottles have a nett and a tare weight on them..

For some reason the propane patio gas bottles are more expensive per kg than normal "commercial" propane ....BUT I've just looked on line and it appears it's evened it's self out....


Also try homebase they sell patio gas in lightweight composite bottles .. if you can get a cheap empty bottle (not as popular as calor so cheaper on the black market;)

Thank you again for the advice mate , it has beena long time since i have had to use gas bottles it was mainly roofing work heating pitch and so on and it was 90's last time i got gas for the campervan we had back then , so things have changed a lot i did get the gas bottle with the bbq so that was why i was going to get the same , but i will now get a standard propane screw in reg and grab a bottle from the looks indian shop round the corner the girl offered me a full bottle the other day with out an empty so i pop in tomorrow and grab one , i will grab 2 regs to , i can as i say put the gas in the back porch if i have to as that area is always around 10c in winter and hoping we should not need it come summer that will be bbq time lol , i know i am already trying to jump over the winter lol to the spring , thank you again for the great advice

I've a camper so have the smaller 3.9 jobbies for that

Calor let you swap between butane and propane of the same type which went down "really well" when your local boat yard didn't have a butane he was not impressed for some reason

Hi mate i don't suppose you know the tare weight of a 13kg calor propane i looked on line but struggling to find the answer , i just got a bottle ofr £30 the guy says it is over half full , i might try the hot water down it tomorrow but to dark and cold right now lol , i will also try it on the bathroom scales tomorrow thank if you know

After 30 years of using 47kg propane for cooking I can recommend some sheep's wool wrapped round the regulator and then covered with clingfilm and a polybag.
