Cheap battery power stair lights

Post by steptoe »

Ok i wonder has anyone tried these cheap lights off the bay , i have just ordered a 5 meter and some 3 meter the 5 for the stairs i will run it up the string of the staircase and put the pir at waist height so if power does go we can see to get up and down stairs , i also have plans to fit one round the inside of the gun cabinet just to throw light in there when racking the guns up as i am fussy i hate gun bump damage hence they all live in silicone socks in a moisture control cabinet lol .

Ok well any info on use would be great we are going to power with rechareables and or work a rig round a power bank

We have been using these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Battery-Cupboa ... d_rp_0_1_t they fix with either magnets or sticky pads. We have 4 in the kitchen, one at the bottom of the stairs, one going up the stairs, 2 on the landing and one facing the stairs. We power them with rechargeable batteries and they do the trick. They only take one AA battery at a time, no problems so far.

I've got some osram lights

https://electrical-showroom.co.uk/catal ... HcEALw_wcB

At the top of the stairs as we have a 2 down 3 up house you get to the top step then go right up another step to the bedrooms or left up a step to the bathroom so it lights that little well between the 2 landing steps .. and doesn't blast your retinas at 3am when you need the loo

And in the little hall way

One of these hall way lights

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Battery-Powere ... 88487&th=1

Both come with a little round metal disc with a bit of double sided tape ..

There is a magnet on the back of the lamp to stick it to the disc.....

They use 3xaaa batteries at the moment with a house of 5 and 2 moggies the rechargeable batteries are lasting 3 to 4 weeks

Oh and I paid £3 ISH each from home bargains a couple of years ago now

I've also got the osram ceiling lights in the tunnel to back way give more than enough light out to avoid falling over the kids bikes / other dumped crap / the cat

It's also worth considering a smoke alarm at the stairs with a light

https://www.diy.com/departments/fireang ... 118_BQ.prd

I've got those in all bed rooms and over the stairs in addition to the mains alarms in the lounge and top of the stairs which are much slower to respond (tested by bluing the cast iron griddle pan cooking steak 🥩
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

We have Ever Ready brand battery’ approach’ lights on the stairwell, landing and bathroom. It works. And saves,as Yorkshire Andy comments, the brightness in the early hours. We are all LED anyway, which IS cheap to run. However, our batteries are all rechargeable up there, which charge via the telly, which is on anyway!

Always there too if there is a powercut. In fact I have an approach light, same brand, in the old fashioned outside loo.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Cheers all , yes my main worry was the stairs i am all led here to but getting in to solar and battery now , but the pir lights i think will be a bonus on the stairs the others well i am fitting some under the kitchen cabinets again i have led strip under there but if the power is out no light .

We have head torches in all rooms so if your on the loo and power went head torch on the counter by the loo and so on you never know , nothing worse even in a house you know like the back of your hand try moving round in the pitch black .

I will let you guys know just how bright these are as i have seen ones like andy has but also like bar ones 60cm long and 1.6 cm thick so they can be fitted on the stair string again and you will have light at foot level on the stairs but they should light the area as it is a narrow stair case .

Thanks again for the great idea
