I really didn't expect to find an active forum in this day in age - I thought they all turned into graveyards once Facebook groups took off. I never could get into them as they're terrible for following and taking part in discussions.

I just wanted to pop in and say hello from the North West. I've been reading into prepping for a while now but I'm still fairly new to everything. I'm just doing some basic prepping to start off with such as stocking water, food and hygene supplies. I guess what triggered me into this world was seeing what a complete shit-show society turned into when lockdown first hit. The panic-buying was understandable but ridiculous and very unexpected, and it really highlighted how fragile society and our distribution networks are to even the slightest disturbance. I dread to think how things will go if something more serious happened and I want to be prepared for when it inevitably does.

My initial goal is to be able to bug in for at least a month and so I'm also looking into portable power units, cooking stoves and long-term water storage & filtration, but ultimately I want to be as self-sustainable and protected as I possibly can be for me and my family. I do have a garden, also, so growing my own vegetables and maybe even a chicken coop is something I'm considering.

You're in the right place for sharing knowledge about all sensible aspects about prepping, and allied with that, discussions about self sufficiency and even financial resilience ( in the light of current UK economy ).

Please do share and contribute. And don't be afraid to ask or answer questions. there's lots of expertise here.
We have homesteaders, off-gridders, island dwellers, townies... All sorts. Most of us would prep to bug in in most situations. Running off to the woods is not all it's cracked up to be

Unlike Facebook, this forum is moderated, so we have to abide by our hosts rules. E.g. no swearing, not much politicking and no discussion of weapons.... We are not like our US survivalist cousins.

Hi, welcome. I don't go on any Facebook groups for prepping. Closest is the odd visit to plant and fungi ID groups. This is the only forum I've used really. I did post a couple of times on another one. On this one you get a reasonable balance of opinion, plenty of ideas.
Everyone preps to bug in. A few people also have bugout preps. Most probably have some form of EDC/Get Home.
