Say 6 months at most, that's 66% a year inflation rate.
For people who's income goes up little or nothing, and was low to start with, this is unsustainable.
Large are cruel? As a 25 year poultry keeper,I know they come from 1 year + old hens. ITS NATURE. Why is it cruel?

Oh yes, as my wife said ,it’s like having a baby! In commercial egg production, and even domestic, if you feel that large eggs are cruel to the hens then the only alternative is to kill them. So what’s cruel? Commercial kill them automatically. MONEY! :?

Just had to move my hens on18 months because of my situation. Laying large eggs and in very good condition. And happy too. In a good smallholders gaff ,which is good,as in the old days I would wring their necks!

That guardian article is rammel. What a load of rubbish! :(

First one had poop on it. I should have washed it. Made the mistake of cracking it from the other side, getting poop on my hand, then panicking, and ditching the egg. Lesson learned.
So, in view of the price inflation of 66%, I will be cutting down on eggs. But lots of things are going up. Everything except my income.

Bread
Aldi Essentials bread (white and wholemeal) is still 39p though, got this for the first time (wholemeal). It's perfectly OK. I prefer the both in one, partly because it's a compromise on taste, fibre and low oxalates, but beggars can't be choosers. I'll alternate Aldi Essentials white and wholemeal instead. Salt % is the same as Aldi both in one and Kingsmill 50-50. Kingsmill is £1.40 now, 3.6 x the price!

Bought 3x5kg bags of sugar in Tescos for £3.20 each which works out at 64p a kilo. Bit of a faff decanting one into plastic containers and storage jars but at that price, I'll be doing it.

The egg price is interesting though. I have been used to ‘not paying’ ,which is not true. The cost feed ,straw, cleaners for poultry blah blah have gone up. So will labour too this year. Not surprised. If I can get ‘em I’ll have ‘em. If not,I won’t starve. ;)
