Tinned tomatoes! I started working out some rough menu plans and realised halfway through that nearly everything had tinned tomatoes in......I need thousands of tins! Well, a lot anyway :o

Branston Beans, 4 pack for a quid in ASDA. Just as nice as Heinz and half the price.

ASDA Rice pud 18p and no different to Ambrosia.

ASDA Meatballs in Tomato sauce. I was really surprised at how nice these were. I think they are 38p a tin.

ASDA Chicken Curry, about a quid a tin. Very filling and very tastey.

The beauty of all these is they can be eaten cold in an emergency.

Be lucky (and meretricious)

ASDA Mexican Chicken - was on special about £1.15 the other day. You can plop this stuff straight into pita bread for a mexi-wrap!

Macaroni Cheese is quite cheap too.

yep, us too, we get most of our basic tins in Lidl's although we have just been to Morrisons to stock up on some tins we cant get in Lidl's, bit of a "special" trip as the nearest Morrisons is 23 miles away which is why most of our shopping is done in Lidl's which is only 8 miles away!

All tesco's branded tinned meals:

Beef curry - tried it - quite nice a bit fatty but loads of meat - £1.19
Chicken and Veg casserole - very nice - lots of chicken - £1.29
Chicken curry - not bad - £0.99
Chicken in white wine sauce - a bit floury and nicer with a bit of wine and some other veg added- £1.29
Chicken Jalfriezi, Korma and Tikka - The tikka is nice not tried the others - All £1.29
Chilli con carne - A very good chilli - well done tesco - £1.29
Irish Stew - Loads of Lamb and veg and very tasty - £1.59
Sausage Casserole - not tried it, sounds awful! - £1.29
Sweet and sour chicken - not tried it - £1.29
Beef and Ale stew with dumplings - not tried it as I don't like dumplings - £1.09

They have a 2 for £2.20 offer at the moment on some of them - Thats £1.10 a can and they are all 400g - enough for 2 small meals or a hearty big one. Good value in my opinion although I'm not a big fan of tescos.

Yeah usually anything that cheap is 99% genetically modified ingredients (i.e. 1.09)

I agree - I tend to get all my veg stuff from Lidl - the Freshona corn is to die for - I can sit and jut eat it straight out the tin - and yes really great if you want a quick meal.

On a side shoot to all of this - has anyone noticed how the cost of ASDA's tinned salmon has jumped in price - previous price for 400g tin was £1.58 its not £2.98 !!!! - yes this figure is correct - i nearly passed out. I love this salmon - but now at this cost I will only be able to cook half a tin at a time. - anyone else know where you can get decent tasting tinned salmon at reasonble price - unfortunately the one at Lidl is VERY salty and somehow the salmon seems very "tough" for fish......

Gawd, that's a bit of a jump - I haven't noticed personally as I don't eat tinned salmon. I stick to tuna. Both Sainsbury's and Tesco own brand (not the cheapy, cheap ranges) are pole and line caught, which is fantastic. So I just buy that. It's £2.50 for four tins of tuna chunks in sunflower oil at Tesco at the moment.
