Blooming washing machine is on the blink tonight... Dab of solder it's going again dry joint on the on off switch on the PCB if they make the switches any smaller they'd be invisible
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong

Battery condition ..
Abs sensor wiring/ sensor to loom plug corrosion , front n/s on many cars takes a battering
Abs reluctor ring / sensor issue
If the esp light is also on look at the gyroscopic unit or a misfire / faulty coil / injector
Depending on the brand there are a few cheap / free bits of software on play store when coupled with a Bluetooth obd dongle can point you towards where you need to look
Gyroscope

Have just been looking at obd readers, really cheap, may get one. She's out at the moment but reports that the steering "feels heavy" when the light comes on so I'm wondering if it's a sticky brake caliper? Not sure which is worse - trying to trace an electrical fault or stripping brake calipers.
