That's true, Frnc, don't sell yourself short - I had lodgers for a few years, and it was *definitely* work! Jenny, I hope you feel okay about un-retiring - I wouldn't have the energy to work, to be honest, I'd sell the house and buy a 1 bed flat somewhere rather than do that. Or rent out the house to the Social and rent a studio flat, anything rather than work again :(

Own preps: hmmm, not that much that's specific to what we usually call prepping, but trying to sort finances, eyeing the Ikea kit to make a sofa (its taken over my kitchen now, as well as my living room  ), keeping pantry stocks high and trying to get all the finance and sofa crap done so that I can actually sort out the seeds for the garden.

Todays prep is after a doc appointment we had a roasted chicken done yesterday the wife used some and well i will save her the best meat off the carcass i stripped it in the pot it went boiled down and loads of veg ready to throw in the huge stock pot i am making a huge batch of chicken cassorole/ bonebroth soups lol madam i will leave hers chunky mine i can hit with the stick blender and should make it easier to get in hehehe .

I am also goingto be doign a test on boiling the kelly kettle with the bio fuel stove i have and that way i am thinking i might get the 1 litre kelly as a pure soup boiler i will pour the soup in the kelly kettle and well we shall see lol .

I am also looking at installng a bio ethanol stove that lookslike a woodburner in the living room and will do photos when we do and give a report on how well it heats the room as we are all going to have to have ways other than gas and electric to heat our homes

You thought about Home Delivery driver?
You'd get Employee discount but not have to deal with cash, stack shelves, have several supervisors pretending to work by micromanaging you or sit on checkouts

I've very much thought of that. ;)

It's noteworthy that ALL our very many ASDA delivery drivers happened to be male. Discrimination?

I did have some nightmare lodgers in the past. But eventually I found out you don't have to give them a month's notice, if you get messed about. The law just says a 'reasonable' amount of time. This makes it a lot easier if you get a bad one.

I'm not sure what those crates can weigh up to....
I do know that H&S recommends that women lift 20% less then men, that might be it

And what about old women? LOL.

I bet those grocery trays can get heavy.....googling...

The trays are about 35Litres. So one of those full of, say milk, might be 30+ Kilos

I'm going to guess they impose a loaded weight of 20 Kilos or so, in case the customer has to lift it.

Must be tricky not to discriminate. When they are looking for the most suitable employee, I'd imagine physical stature would be high priority and age and gender are, on average, going to swing it. If the stronger applicant gets it that will TEND to be a younger man unless they get athletic females.

Legally your weight- lifting should not exceed 25kg. That’s still a good weight! I can’t work anymore, but as I got older , I found the boxes we lifted to seem heavier! Technique is also valuable upon lifting dead weights. Paradoxically, we were not allowed to lift boxes more than 25kg , but carcasses such as pigs and beef particularly, could exceed 50kg! Bonkers.

Point is, don’t underestimate the hurt that lifting can cause!

jenny I bet it's a struggle trying to haul big orders up several flights of stairs in old tenements. I wouldn't want to do it.

And the government wonders why 50+ year olds don’t want to graft! I was thinking,no my wife was, of me going part time before my illness . Bad back, bad knees, bad elbows. All because of a lifetime of work. My mates are all the same - the ones that have done physical work anyway.
