Well my preps back to subject for today was to spend 4 hours oin the polytunnel lucky it was warm so not so bad in there but sieving 100litres of compost to fill deep trays to plant my leeks on in to to hold back was back breaking , then well i tried to fill the strawberry bed but back said no lol so me and the new stray cat sat on the bench and she well loves to be fussed but her claws hurt lol .

We then went and did a little more sieving and got some more yarrow going and some hysop omg my back lol but it felt good to be out .

We are starting to check stock again and move stuff round and also to try and do more tidying on the stores

So today's preps / life projects

Car coil springs seem fine having beaten it over some speed humps coming home having been out for dinner...

Picked up a fire proof documents box cheapest place I could find one was in Toolstation..

https://www.toolstation.com/master-lock ... lsrc=aw.ds

£35 most other sites are at least a tenner more...

It's heavy the YouTube tests look passable....

Not quiet a full a4 size but important documents such as passports / car v5s/ insurance docs kids birth certificates are now all in one place and a bit safer from fire..

Need to update the usb stick and drop that in with other stuff

Got a new CCTV camera to put up tomorrow if I get chance

Need to pop to the chemist and get some more antibiotics the tooth that was giving me gipp 2 weeks ago has flared up a bit dentist drilled the pulp out today and put a dressing in this afternoon .. got the perception

Car got a bath and a coat of wax stuff to help it shrug the snow off plus the door seals got silicon oiled so they don't stick with any ice.. need to check the tyre pressures at some point

Allotment tomorrow and move the strawberry plants

Oh and the little lad has placed his snow boots by the back door ready and got his ski trousers out his wardrobe and put them at the foot of his bed start them young

Oh what a wonderful morning blocked drain not made it round to the allotment yet

Fortunately my dad and I made up a drain jetting hose to suit our pressure washers from a discounted Lidl special  tried all the usual tricks first with hot water shoving the garden hose down to no avail.. quick drive to the parents got home ten minutes jetting the drain and all is flowing well...

Back yard sprayed down with jeyes fluid and a foaming agent so it dwelled a bit longer and all hot washed down with the pressure washer on the hot tap.... Now dreading the gas bill

Mrs J has just sorted our finances prior to increases in fuel/ council tax and all the other stuff that we ALL know about. Anyhow,we are ok ,which is good ,considering my loss of income. Right now I am claiming DWP benefits ( which 40+ years of tax qualifies me for- and I’ve never claimed before) and we can survive quite well.

Grenfell said a while ago that money is probably the most realistic prepping we can concentrate upon, and I agree. Planning a roll of notes in my back pocket is far more realistic than a survival kit to live in the * Woods*.

This next five days I have early morning hospital treatments. That means that Mrs J will go for a few hours each day to work. It also means I can get up on the roof and point the chimneys. What she doesn’t know won’t worry her! ;) :D Until I was ill,me walking up the roof she never blinked at! 🤣

My mate is coming round too. He specialises in horticultural kit,and is bringing me a replacement chainsaw ( I have two) and taking the dodgy one to fix,as I have a load of wood to process, and more to come. Fortunately I have enough space, and this will give sufficient fuel for my wife for at least three Winters. Everyone who is able is installing wood/ multi fuel stoves locally - and I guess everywhere else. That makes firewood now about as common as rocking horse sh*t locally! We both agree that the idea that fuel will reduce in price eventually is something of a hope / lack of reality by the majority. Sorry if that upsets anyone, but I don’t have time to be too diplomatic anymore. Of course, if politics and fossil fuel shortages take a back seat, prices may go down, but we don’t expect it. In fact ,my wife sugge that this Winter has been a training run for the future…

On top of the wood,I am having another half tonne of smokeless fuel coming in ( we have a proper Coal House) .Also kindling: Now that is bl**dy expensive! I have never, ever bought it. For 33 years we have had open fire/ stoves, and firewood and kindling was/ is free ( just took my sweat!). What we use until I move on I will produce. After that, up at the back of the Summer house there are 20 odd sacks full and five dustbins. That’ll keep her going. She won’t be paying a fiver+ for a tiny bagful.

Got another run to the local tip - sorry Refuse Centre - as I am clearing cr*p . We are now looking like a smart household in the yard and garden, rather than a builders merchant! It means it’ll be easy for my wife to sell the place if she thinks it is her way forward. That’s it right now.

Gotta go. Another hospital trip awaits. ;) :D
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Me.

I hope the hospital trips go well this week, jansman.

What preps I'm doing? I've made a kind of shutter for my south-facing pantry window (the heat last year down here made me feel sick a few times, anything I can do to keep it out of the house is good). I've moved a little cash ISA - rate has gone up from 1.74% to 4%, can't be bad. A confession: I've found some tins, mostly fruit of one sort or another, that have got left out of rotation  so I've put them out on the work surface.

I've found a new U3A group, on environmental affairs - I'm going there this morning, which is why I'm up so early (for me). Hoping for information (on pollinators), a few new local contacts, and first-time use of my bus pass  it's been a long time I've had it and not used it

I've set up my pluglets, but not seeded them yet - we're not getting the worst of the weather down here, but it feels very cold in the room where I need to grow stuff. Next weekend is my target.

Jansman ..hope that the apps go easy ..have a bit of a rest and for gods sake don't fall off the ruddy roof ..Mrs J won't be impressed ...and how do you know she doesn't read this thread :) she could be waiting for you with a large cattle prod !
Preps this week are slightly different.. a year ago the then 29 year old daughter had to have a mass of cells removed due to cancer of womb
It all went so badly wrong and she was taken round to the A and E dept where she spent a number of hours on the floor bleeding badly it was chaos in there people all over the place
In the end up I went up and the security wouldn't let me in due to the covid laws
She half crawled to the door and I went and got her regardless of you cant come in
Gave her all my tabs I had for my vonwillebrands ( haemophilia) to stop bleeding ..and got her in the GPS who said hell yes done right thing shed lost a lot of blood and then prescribed mine to me to cover for what I gave her plus a box for her ..
She should have had a check up / smear whatever 6 months ago but works full time has a 11 yr old and gets penalised if she takes time off work ..make the apps after work...but doesn't finish till docs shut..and cant afford to ..so no check
So this week I'm nagging her weather she hates me or not
She will be sick to death of me going on at her and if this snow hits as they say it will around Thursday here she can go to docs its close ..the excuse being late for work is the snow
I'm hoping she makes the app to shut me up as I'm driving her mad
Health is important ..shes afraid ..had grandson early at 29 weeks ..big ordeal there . She went through it then never had another ...then all this ..it was horrific..
Preps this week ..convince daughter number 2 that however inconvenient unpleasant or embarrassing ..get to the docs and get checked out
I suppose it applies to us all doesn't it ....
