The Asian markets are plummeting,The EU is bust,Africa and the Middle East is burning with civil strife and even war.Fuel is spiralling in price, and getting scarcer.Weather events are getting more severe, and environmental problems are rearing their heads-the Horn Of Africa is a good example.
Closer to home, jobs are insecure(if you have one)youth unemployment is the highest for 30 yrs. Now we have riots, and a police force unable to (or unwilling)to quell. If you are ill or out of work our once robust social security system is struggling to help you.Now th PM is flying home for an emergency meeting of COBRA (the emergency govt to you and me).
Anyone here just a little concerned at World Events?

Re: SHTF?
The 15 yr-olds on the street are far more savvy than the govt. Politicians think they know best and do not listen to anybody - but they don't have to live in the real world, we do. I think this had to happen, because the people in charge are silly schoolboys playing at being a govt. They've never had real jobs in the real world, and are totally disconnected.. and if this lot decided to riot in Chelsea then they'd sort it fast. And if the govt say "oh no we can't use water cannon" then the people should make themselves heard and tell them they must.

I've given up being concerned, if that makes sense, because for a while now I've been anticipating economic collapse so have the mindset already in place for it. Taken as a whole, yes, things are worrying to say the least. I guess all any of us can do is 'batten down the hatches' wherever we are and do what we can given our personal resources to buffer the close future which looks set to be insecure and uncertain. Taking nothing for granted, especially nothing government related.
I wouldn't say I was 'luckier' than others in living in an area where, for the past decade, resources and ameneties have been steadily declining, but it has given me an appropriate preppers mindset and a foretaste of what is to come, even if it is on a much milder scale.
So at some point in my future I'm expecting to have in place....no medical services perhaps beyond absolute emergency as local government makes even more cutbacks....less actual processed, shop bought food as fuel prices coupled with rising food prices serve to make it beyond my reach, even more so than now...as to the weather..well, living on the edge of the country we've seen the changes in weather patterns for more than a decade now, experiencing prolonged and more severe winter storms, shorter and less food-productive summers, and winters that have had us trapped in our homes sometimes for weeks on end.
I'd like to say it can't get much worse, but I'm a realist.
So my mantra tends to be expect the worst, hope for the best.

I think these riots bring it home to us how fast things can go to hell around us. And I see a huge divide between the Govt and the people, it's very much "them" and "us". Almost going back to Victorian values. They are looking after their own kind and own interests and the vast mass of the people can suffer god knows what cos they don't matter.

HOW??? Every person I know is saying the same things "get the army in", "get the water cannon" - but HOW do we make them do it? HOW???diamond lil wrote:and if this lot decided to riot in Chelsea then they'd sort it fast. I need a coffee. I stayed up well past my bedtime watching what was going off and I'm feeling it this morning *yawn*...

Re: SHTF?
Disappointed? yes; annoyed? certainly; frustrated, exasperated, grumpy? that's me. But concerned? No! Having come to the realization that the world is becoming more and more unsettled and that the veneer of civilization in Britain is becoming increasingly thin I came to the decision a couple of years ago, as did probably every other prepper on this sight, that I couldn't rely on anyone else to get me through any impending crisis, especially not the government. I therefore decided I had to become far more self reliant, not just for myself but for my families well being and possible survival. I've made several preps in the last couple of years; they are nowhere near finished yet but I feel I am far better prepared, both practically and mentally. This I find has given me a more relaxed and confident outlook. Yes, of course I am saddened to see the dreadful events of the last few days. I'm also exasperated and annoyed to see how international banks and world governments are making such a hash of the money markets knowing it's the ordinary folks like you and me who are suffering. I am though, far from concerned, as I know I am far better equipped to ride any storms that may ensue in years to come. I hope other preppers also feel more confident and less concerned about national and global events for the same reason, their preps should be giving them reassurance and confidence for their own future.

I hear ya Panther, we're the lucky ones, for whatever reason we've each been given the foresight to see what’s coming and the disposition to do something about it. There are a lot who haven’t, and however uncomfortable things may get for us, you can be guaranteed for them it will be positively hellish.

Re: SHTF?
The way out of this for us (and America), as history has showed us, is war.
Just like Germany leading up to WWII, increasing prices of food etc, massive inflation, huge public debt. Mass civil unrest.
China and Iran, possibly Russia and maybe even Argentina, all targets for war.
Scary thought, but certain people would profit hugely from a war like this.
When we have the gift of hindsight, we do we keep letting history repeat itself
