What Preps are you doing this week? Part 10
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 10
Also stocking up on building/ diy materials. Screws, paintbrushes, certain timber etc. Don’t like being caught out when something needs fixing .
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
Robert Frost.
Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.
Me.

Sorting out the sheds and summer house as the other half says if he doesn't make it then I'm left with a lot of stuff to get through and yes the man sheds cave and hut had pieces of machines in there that I've never seen before!
Car booted most of his old building tools that won't be used again made some money on them which will go towards MOT this Friday ..weather was great for it
Got a cool bag for sarnies and drinks as hes had 4 hospital appointments at different hospitals since last Wednesday and we were there hours while they were taking stuff out and putting stuff in him so plenty of cool water in the bag i freeze the bottles overnight and just have nice cool drink then day after doesn't take long to melt
Had no rain for weeks here so the water butt is attached to downpipe from the shower in bathroom and recycling the water there
Had a load of large tree stumps I've attacked with the chainsaw for winter hot work but well if slade can film here it is merry Christmas in heat I can chop wood:)
Got rid of the extra freezer as we don't need it only 2 of us and have reduced the growing in garden to easy pots now as dont have enough time .
And off to abs/ circuits tonight gives me a hour to myself

Finally managed to get a water butt on each downspout, will pick up more and daisy chain as they go on offer. Longer term would love to engineer a system from these into the downstairs toilet
Also clearing lots of old clothes through ebay sales. Every little bit helps

You've done such a lot, GeeGee! An hour to yourself sounds very good, I'd think it was the absolute minimum, but I can see what a powerhouse you are. Still, I'm glad you're doing it.GeeGee wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 1:27 pm Sorting out the sheds and summer house as the other half says if he doesn't make it then I'm left with a lot of stuff to get through and yes the man sheds cave and hut had pieces of machines in there that I've never seen before!

I confess, the heat is really doing my head in - we didn't have any of the thunderstorms round here, just a bit of drizzle before I woke up at 6am yesterday. I haven't even done what I said I was going to do last weekend, of clearing the P trap in my bathroom washbasin - I need to do the decision-making and the youtube watching the day *before*.

No upstairs gets the rainwater when we have some the pipe is attached to the middle of the downpipe so I can take the pipe out and put the bung in if need be when its full
Been collecting the shower water and bath etc and using that on garden ..
Have three others dotted around but empty now one is attached to the downpipe at front of house but only collects rainwater have two linked together and a pipe leading from guttering on summer house
Was hoping for the thunderstorms but none came
Like to replenish

I bought some lovely plants/bushes for the garden and potted them all up. I also bought and built some garden furniture. My fences need retreating, as does my decking (that's next month's jobs) but at least now I have a pleasant area that I can sit outside and enjoy and relax in. That's what I call Personal Enjoyment Preps - important for my mental health and stress levels.

I'm not sure if you were asking me or GeeGee, Andy but if it was me, then yes, it's on the ground floor.Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 2:48 pmIs the sink on the ground floor?Arzosah wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 2:31 pm I confess, the heat is really doing my head in - we didn't have any of the thunderstorms round here, just a bit of drizzle before I woke up at 6am yesterday. Once you get the u bend off check the pipe through the wall is clear....
A couple of weeks back we had the washer on... No drama it's on almost daily
Just walked into the kitchen as the sink overflowed
The washer drains into the sink drain plus dishwasher
Over time gunk had filled the pipe combination of soap powder , grease , fluff and everything else the u bend wasn't too bad the bit through the wall was full....
So I pulled the outside bend off carefully
Then since it's cemented in place
Started with a bucket outside and pushed a bamboo cane through them a brush handle
Then a old microfiber over the brush shaft...
Totally clean after that
You'll notice most RAF plumbers don't like spending 10 seconds with a file. The plastic burrs trap hair which starts the build up of gunk....
So use a bit of sandpaper to clean any rough bits off the pipe ends
Usual procedure for the u bend is empty cupboard or vanity unit
Old towel and a mixing bowl / washing up bowl
Now's the issue to loosen the plastic compression collars now I've hands like shovels and I sometimes struggle..
These make light work of tight fittings

Once loose undo all the way and slide back a bit and for the love of god make a mental note of how the rubber washer sits and the plastic washer the rubber washer is chamfered a bit like = |/
Remove both ends and clean out
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
