Crikey. Y_A was right. SOME Home bargain have got discontinued stock of Powerbanks for 99p
They're only 1,500mAh but come with either iphone or micro(?) USB sockets.
Now.... 1,500mAh is barely a good set of 3 AAA cells, but they may be worth it just for bits.

Still able to get Jenny out spending   like she needs any encouragement

A micro usb lead costs that
Andy,
Can you crack one open or do some measuring.....
I'm guessing 3 or 4 aaa rechargeables in there and probably some charge control circuit? Maybe a boost converter to get them to make 5V? Can you see what charge current they can put out? upload the spec sheet?

Tempted. But at 1/10th the price of something 7 times better, they are borderline.
I just wonder if there's anything else can be done with them? Pair them with those poundland head lamps?
Often the whole 'making it work as USB' thing either uses dreadfully wasteful resistance circuits or coolio buck/boost converters. Since I discovered those converters, I fell in love with them.

Pity they don;t have usb c

Lithium polymer battery miss Jenny not aaa cells

Had to gut the meter as the input cable was in the way...

Set the meter to zero so will run it to flat to see the capacity

Update
734ma capacity out the packet .....

Took my phone from 27 to 43%

Ordered another head torch  now bear with my logic I've got a fair few  but I also wear prescription glasses 99.9% of the time been half blind without them...

In total darkness most of the compact head lamps cause hideous glare on the lenses effectively back lighting them meaning I can see next to nothing due to the glare on the lenses ...
Screenshot_20230619-224331.png
These have a deeper body moving the lights beyond the glasses

Most headlamps are shower proof of that the law of sod means that the night I really need a decent headlight be it changing a flat tyre road side to emergency repairs on the house.. this is rated down to 1m total Immersion and drop proof

Most also have the blooming soft touch on off buttons which in a pack or the car door pocket a good bump they turn on flattening the battery before you get to use it....

So say hello to the petzl pixa 1 circa £25 worth approx 60 lumen output 2 brightness levels and a flat battery warning before it starts to dim...

And if you fold the lamp so the lense is protected by the headband you can't accidentally turn it on as prevents the switch operating until the lamp is rotated outwards

Screenshot_20230619-224344.png
And it's intrinsicly safe for low risk explosive atmosphere environments 2/22

It runs on 2x AA batteries which are tool less replaceable once the lamp is fully spun round to the headband
Screenshot_20230619-224449.png
Screenshot_20230619-224409.png
So no need to worry about charging

I've also got the pixa 3 had that fair few years now it's still going strong. (edit 9 years I've had the pixa 3 :o https://www.uk-preppers.co.uk/forum/vie ... lit=Pixa+3 ). And it's still going strong the headband elastic is going but replacements only cost a tenner

You know I can't resist....
So I bought 3 out of curiosity.

Very odd, the output power plug is a dual standard MicroUSB one way and iPhone the other!!!! Loose fitting in my older android phone, but it is charging.

Theoretically this might part charge my LED lamps, but the plug doesn't fit, well enough. I think they are mostly useless..... Unless I hardwire something to them.

Pity really.

Andy,
I managed to crack one open?
Contains a 3.7V 5.5Wh LIPO and a circuit board that can boost up to 5V 1a or control charge from USB in.
I chopped the USB cable to see if maybe it could connect current out. It's only 2 Wire, so useless as such.

That does mean they are totally useless for charging my USB-c phone. Barely useful for charging an old flip phone or android device.

If you find a use for them, let me know....
..... Ah.... Lipo..... That means 'Single Use Fire starter' Just need a nail

That's why I didn't rip them open years ago I discovered they burn when dropped in a water butt when a big pack goes into thermal runaway

As for micro or lightning. If you've an I phone they are ok for an emergency top up
Could always sling one of these with it

There's me thinking emergency top up of a micro usb head torch which I have a few of

Or a plane and simple barter item in the event of a big blackout

Few little bits done this week I've buggered my big toe joint so I'm limping about  hospital said sprain or infection... Speaking to a guy today who's a former RAMC from battlefield to army hospitals this guy seems to have done most things plus sports physio he took a look and apparently Ive got a capsulitis just hit YouTube on his advice and looked up taping methods and this has provided instant relief ... .. Vs the hospital on Sunday generic pain killers and rest.... Normal compression bandage would as I found last Sunday is the worst possible thing you can do

I'm 2/3rds of my way through the 3 day first aid at work hence meeting the chap above seem to be forming an impression  got onto Tourniquets today and these had obviously being well used in training as I took one off him i immediately untangled in and "staged it" like I have them folded in all my kits .. we were put in pairs with a short length of drain pipe over our arms as the intended area to apply he began explaining how to apply I took that as my queue to attack my work mate with it .. apparently I had it down to a fine art and got it spot on .. no one else on the group has ever seen one let alone practiced with one .. suppose you can't get better praise than that from a former army medic

Ordered some new work shirts if that counts nice thin nomex fabric for some protection from fire / welding work

The vampires at the hospital struggle to get blood out of me with the disposable "rubber band " Tourniquets they have to use now ... I bought a fabric / elastic version like they used to use and take it with me for any blood tests makes their job easier if nothing else

The disposable rubber tourniquets can be repurposed to make a serviceable catapult to scare crows off the lawn.
