Hi Andy, the first aid stuff you posted in the bit that I snipped was interesting, but as for purchases, I'm *really* interested in this, the nomex fabric - on googling, I can see people sell it in lots of places, including Etsy, but I don't know enough about it to trust any information they give me. Do you have a trusted supplier? Or any recommendations?Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 10:01 pm Ordered some new work shirts if that counts nice thin nomex fabric for some protection from fire / welding work

Nomex is a brand owned by Dupont immsmc it's a type of aramid aka Kevlar
There are different levels of protection the shirts I ordered are ultimately a dickies workware brand owned by a big USA corporation but it sounds like they no longer distribute in the UK hence a lot of cheap workware currently available.... Which are arc flash but like all nomex it doesn't burn which is handy when your laid under a machine welding
Nomex is tested in several ways and certified depending on the level of protection it offers from arc flash (think electrical explosion in a substation) right through to a firemans tunic and trousers

No problem even the lowest protection level you might get thermal burns due to the thin fabric BUT the shirt will not melt and stick to what ever bit of skin is underneath ..
My dad's doing a BBQ tonight might wear it

Just passed the emergency and first aid at work efaw and full three day exams 100% both papers
Seems to be fair less practical content these days no big practical pantomime on the last day anymore

Congratulations! Shame there's less practical, but it is what it is, I suppose. You have so many occasions when you seem to really need your first aid knowledge, I should think you're one of the most prepared there!Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 1:13 pm Just passed the emergency and first aid at work efaw and full three day exams 100% both papers![]()

Congrats Yorkshire Andy, I re-took my EFAW last year. Sadly it may be my last as I am struggling terribly with my knees and as people requiring CPR are mostly on the floor and I may not be able to kneel down they would not pass me. I guess I could still be useful by instructing someone else how to do it in an emergency though.
Growing old disgracefully!
