As I am not up to doing a lot this week ( physically), a bit of shopping will be done. Whilst as stated elsewhere, I am not the greatest *believer* in electronic communication   I will add to the delivery coming to us on Wednesday. Whilst we can shop cheaper at the Aldi or Lidl,we can also get it delivered from our Tesco. Time is precious. So a delivery means sitting and chatting, reading or watching tv. Also someone else’s diesel and hoofing about.I am a believer in actually buying and physically having stuff in possession, regardless of price. No good needing stuff in an emergency and not having it because your thought maybe that it’ll be tuppence cheaper next week.

Tinned and dried food . That’s the big ‘un right now . When I finished work,we went into our secondary storage.Had to as income crashed overnight . Prepping time! Basically we eat from kitchen pantry, restock from secondary pantry. We don’t now. There was seven months stock in the secondary pantry, and it was getting near to date. The in date rice and pasta I donated to the food bank. We were not eating a lot then. We are now though! Some tins off date. Not a problem,as tinned food is * best before*, but being career food industry,I know the reason those dates are there, and it needs eating ! So we have caught right up now,and all our tinned, jarred and dried food stores are in the large kitchen pantry. Dried food, rice, pasta and spuds I keep in sealed 3 gallon buckets. One product,1 bucket. On the shelf each has its own * Tupperware* container which holds 2 kg. Fair enough amount for two of us. Two of my handfuls of pasta is more than enough,2/3 of a teacup of rice too. The storage will amount to 6 months and is being properly rotated. I am glad we kept the original walk in pantry. Brick lined with a traditional thrall. Never exceeds 8 degrees.

Tins. Keeping there on corned dog, luncheon meat, and tinned bacon. Tuna and salmon too. The shelves will be full on Wednesday, and after that, any gap at all will be listed and replaced weekly. And rotated properly.
Up until now,I have always pickled my own cabbage. Now I will buy it in. Not eating as much, and it’s only me that does! How things change.

The old secondary store now has emergency lighting, batteries, cooking, emergency water, indeed all sorts on its shelves. All hugely and clearly labelled. Up til now I knew where everything was. Now wife does.

Not a huge issue for many, but it adds to my *de- cluttering * programme.

New smoke alarm in my room went off again, in the middle of the night. Looks like it's defective. Fortunately I keep ladders in the prep room. I put a new battery in it a few weeks ago when it went off. Need to get a new alarm to replace it at the end of the month. Not sure I can be bothered chasing a refund. It has an emergency light, but I'm not bothered about that for my room. I have four of these, so I hope it's a one off. I see they stopped making them, wonder if they had too many problems. I took the batteries out on my alarms when I went to Download, as I lock my door if I'm out for more than a quick trip to the shops.

Prepping fail: looked in medicine box for hydrocortisone cream to tame some insect bites but there was none there! Trip to pharmacy - only a mile away - successful.
Next day oh oh, that looks like cellulitis to me (in a past life I was a nurse). Phoned surgery, quack will phone you back. 2 hours later, face to face appointment - quack decided antibiotics were in order, particularly as it was Friday and he didn't want to leave it over the weekend. Much improved today although I won't be going into public with bare legs for a while.Sometimes the NHS works.

Prepping success: electrician ( I think he's number 4 that we've tried) turned up today to begin rewiring the house. Then I can get prepping in earnest again and I might be able to find my recipe books which are all still in boxes even though it's over 6 months since we moved here.

Too right I buggered my foot last weekend I've been hobbling about over a week .. hospital said just do otc meds and see how it goes.... Just so happened I got talking to someone at work happend to be erm an expert. Ex army medic and sports physio. As he said I'd got capsulitis of the big toe to metatarsal joint... Having listened and seen some YouTube videos on strapping and bracing I wish the hospital did because since I got the technique right I'm walking much better and the swelling is finally starting to sort itself out ...

Kit in use volterol / ibuprofen creams...

Vet wrap

Kynesology tape

Paper type strapping tape...

Found Savers is much cheaper than home bargains and similar stores for a fair few items

https://www.savers.co.uk/Health-%26-Wel ... lsrc=aw.ds

Come payday I'm doing a good restock of kit .. more the sprains / strains kit which doesn't last too long when you start replacing dressings daily

Got some decent 10% ibuprofen creams and brand x volterol type gell which is cheaper .. out of all the creams deep heat seems to be doing the most good

First aid training and knowledge is most important. Then knowledge of ‘pharmacy’ medicines and simple treatments. Then a good first aid kit. It all helps to make you well when you have simple unwellness or injury.Of course if you need a doctor, you have to get one! However, for basic situations, self care works. Not long back I tripped in the workshop and sliced my head on the safety guard  of my bench grinder. Mrs J used wipes and steri strips. It would have needed a couple of stitches/ strips at casualty. We avoided a 12 hour wait!

Hope that hobble gets better soon Yorkshire Andy.

I seem to be at a standstill. Or going round in circles, not sure which. Either way, nothing doing at all on the prepping front. Happens sometimes

We are exactly the same..I find it frustrating as I like to have something to do
Mr GG has had to have a load of tests 3 different hospitals in 5 days plus a gp surgery and a clinic
All tests done and various jabs too
Tests will be assessed to see if he can have a trial chemo as currently no cure for his cancer and normal chemo doesn't work
Consultants weighing up the cost of it also ..if its worth giving to him ..argh ..cant think about that too much itll drive me mad
So we are sat waiting for a call ..looking at phone non stop . . If he can't have it then its plan for end of life ..at some point ..if he can have it then the plans we had cant go ahead
So at a standstill too
I've painted the kitchen
Grabbed a workman off street chatted nicely offered endless butties and cuppas if hell scrape the soffits and paint (asbestos underneath but sealed in ) so been quoted horrendous amounts recently
He started yesterday and great price too !
Makes it look better even got some undercoat on
Off to get some more paintbrushes :)
