Well. If he suddenly turned sensible now I'd probably wonder if he was ok

So today, off out in that big car the Stop Oil protesters like lying down in front of!   Off up to the vet to get worm/ flea control for all the animals. They are done regularly so we don’t have problems. About five years ago we had an infestation- many other owners did also - in the house. Not good. Then we will call into B and M, so I will see what is knocking about in there prep wise. I like to keep our tin selection of food in order, and they have stuff we like. I need some large sized zip ties too. Son in law took some in a hurry from the workshop,so they will be replaced today. Consumables are most important for this prepper.
The Egyptian onions are now nicely going to seed in the mature bed. Some will go to my Aunt for her garden, the rest to our community garden. The other will be perennial kale cuttings too.

Thanks for reminding me. Mine have produced some bulbils and are trying to clamber out of the raised bed. I think I need to steer them a bit.
Currently decorating the house and have very little time spare for prepping or weeding. The lottie has got far too many weeds after a couple of weeks of not keeping on top of things :(

 says it all, really

My preps today are about starting to rescue my garden. I was going to go for a countryside walk with my sister, but a 70% thunderstorm forecast, and it's tricky for her with an extra hour tagged on compared to me, fetching me and bringing me back. Can't wait to feel confident enough after my driving lessons to get a car!

Teeth are my other preps: a crown has been temporarily rescued by my dentist, I've just had the regular checkup, and now I've got a hygienist appointment booked. Extra long because its so long since I've had one  so today I'll be purchasing an electric toothbrush and some Eucryl - in an attempt to avoid a *second* hygienist appointment, because my teeth are so bad

Good storm here last night . That’s the rainwater harvesting barrels nice and full. Keeping ‘em that way,as if one reads the news we are all soon going to die of thirst in the next ten minutes!   Talking of the storm,I am glad I got those four slates repositioned and secured. But what a storm! I love to see them. :D
I will crop some runner beans, carrots and cabbage from the garden. Sunday dinner here we come! Not ordered any spuds for this week’s delivery as I have plenty ready in the garden,so we will be using those later. The garden is rampant in growth right now. The squashes are setting and there will be plenty for the Winter. That’s good.
Having set up a system of ‘approach’ lighting on the stairs,in the outhouses and particularly in the pantry,I am charging more batteries. Solar is dealing with that. When the lights fail as the power dwindles,we use the main lights obviously. However,we tend to walk away and leave them on! One gets very quickly used to automatic lighting! :D
With the garden being as well as it is,and especially squash growing,it makes me think of Autumn. So when we are out and near our fuel merchant,I will pick up some extra paraffin. It’s used in the old fashioned outside toilet . A simple hurricane lamp is sufficient to keep frost out when temperature drops below zero. It is insulated in there, but two methods will do one job well. There is also a tap in there,so protecting it all is essential.
There’s enough smokeless coal out there now. That’ll cover most of Winter, and firewood, tonnes. I know it’s Summer, but I like to be in front. There’s a tendency that people ,when presented with ‘alarm’ go out and panic buy. I am not one of them.

Back in 2020, my wife was getting over *ancer ( I refuse to spell it,as I have it too ,damned disease ) and when Covid set in,we found ourselves short of certain things. We had been clearing out after our daughter left home, and were about to restock . Frankly, her illness was more important than shopping. As a result , and quite an experience too, we always make sure of stock. Not vast amounts now - only two of us , but never do we run out of stuff. As a result ,I keep a simple clipboard with something called ‘pen and paper’ and when something is needed,it’s written down. No electricity needed,no internet.

That’ll do for now.

I'm works fire warden, do a fair bit of plant maintenance so welding and other "hot work activities" that and when on the allotment with the incinerator going I lost the hair on my hands and wrist this spring whilst adding more brambles as the wind changed direction

If I know I'm going to be doing a lot of welding ive some proban overalls at work but they get too warm especially if im cutting up steel with the gas axe

For workware you can't complain at £12 ISH for a shirt and £15 for trousers

Emergency light coming into use in the prep room. Roof is leaking and it was coming straight through the light, so I can't turn the light on. Used a head torch yesterday, and my hand torch tonight. Loads cam in yesterday. Think the floor and ceiling are knackered. But my bedroom ceiling dried ok. The floor might have to stay knackered. It's just lifting a bit, it's laminate. This is all my fault, 1. for hiring on the basis of word of mouth and not thinking it through, researching etc. And 2. for trying to sack them at such a vulnerable stage. Hope next door's isn't leaking. That would't be my fault, because the roofer took slates off his side to so his repair, I kid ye not. They woulda come off eventually, to do the transition, but he did that 3 weeks ago! Apparently they allow 3-5 weeks to do a 4 day roof job. Took them 3 weeks to take my slates off and leave me vulnerable.
