If anyone is looking for a really effective rust protecter then Lanolin thinned with white spirit works really well. Even if there is already a bit of surface rust, the lanolin will get right into it, drive the water out, and seal it well.

I have DOZENS wrapped in plastic ( originally) in fireproof boxes in a cool outbuilding ( and fire safe) . 12 years old and perfect. In fact I’ve been reminding my wife how to cook-in an emergency with the same,and the methylated spirit cooker too.

The fireproof boxes idea looks interesting. Could you recommend any? I've had a look on Amazon and they just bring up fireproof safes>

Remember LPG is heavier than air there's a reason why caravans and holidays homes have drop vents at floor level to stop the gas pooling ..

A decent metal chest or box / ammo case ideally vented low down in a well ventilated shed / outbuildings fire is one thing g you don't want an explosive build up of leaked gas

Propane iirc is illegal to store within a dwelling or attached outbuilding /garage butane within a dwelling is 30kg iirc (less explosive than propane)

Oh ours are vented ok. Most important.

The Coleman 500 gas canisters are a good price too, I've ordered them before.

Actually, at £21.50 for 6 cartridges, that's a great deal. Comparing the gas, its better value than the isobutane ones as the propane/butane mix works down to lower temperatures*. Pretty sure I bought mine for £30 and thought the value was okay.

*I'm aware of the "sit on top" gas stoves using up all the propane first then you just have 70% butane that won't work in very cold conditions.

There are stoves that sit on top of those tall thin canisters?! Doesn't sound very stable! Mine sits on a backpacking type, but I have a stabaliser. Remote are better really.

Well that's the sort of thing I imagined. But it doesn't sit on top of the canister, does it? Is the canister on its side, inside? That could work!
I'm used to ones that look like this...

Well that's the sort of thing I imagined. But it doesn't sit on top of the canister, does it? Is the canister on its side, inside? That could work!
I'm used to ones that look like this...

It's side Ways the cans have a notch to fix them in orientation as they have a tube inside to take vapour not liquid

Butane/ propane
Mix burns better in cold weather...... Up to that point of these cartridges being available I had the stoves down as crap building site winter trying to get a brew on with butane wasn't happening
