PORTABLE WATER FILTERS

Post by Cougar »

Ok so I am finally trying to get sorted on the 5 core pillars and I am looking for a portable solution to ensure safe drinking water. I think I have now settled on a Berkey for home water solution but has anyone got any experience with these

They look like a cheap alternative to a Katadyn or MSR but I wondered if they do actually do the job?

I spent some time wild fishing in various parts of the country (when I was single and rich!) basically it was fly fishing gear and backpacking kit. I would live like that for 10 days at a time. Water was dragged from the stream or Loch, shoved through a Millbank bag and boiled. Done.

Now I have a slow sand filter to deal with proper family size amounts of water. Then it is be boiled or chemically treated(and I have big 1 1/2 gallon pans-and a big Kelly Kettle)We ain't got Ill yet.

I do not know how to post a link(help anyone?)so check out You Tube and diva search for slow sand water filters.Bit of an eye-opener.

To be honest cougar this water filter does not look upto much, I have owned two filters a pure and msr and the quality from them looks a lot better then one shown in the ebay picture. The video does not give great expections as he drinks filter water he spits back out. I would not personally buy it but does not mean its not any good.

To be honest I thought exactly the same but live in hope of bagging a bargain and figured if someone had used one and rated them they could be a good deal.

I just picked up one of these from Sports Direct using some vouchers the boss had won a while back

http://aquamira.com/preparedness/fronti ... er-system/

No idea if its any good or not but as it was free (£25 in the sale) I wasn't complaining. Its for thowing in my BOB for times when boiling etc isn't an option. It only filters down to 3 microns but will be better than nothing and is good for 50 gallons

Sports Direct also had a few Leatherman "Fuse" for sale for £35 so I nabbed one of those as well with the rest of the vouchers :D

Yes they do.Just like bleach it's potency diminishes rapidly after expiry.
