Re: Future plans...
checked out the web link for woodland sales, seems most of the woodland around a large village where i once lived is up for sale and some are sold. What gives? who is buying? is it a sign of the next boom could woodland be the next gold?

Re: Future plans...
More and more people are using wood/multi fuel stives for heating. Problem is there is not enough seasoned wood to meet demand. Buying a piece of woodland ad coppiceing (sp?) will provide you with your own personal source of wood. Re: Future plans...
yes PSue, in some cases this may be true but some of this woodland is up to £40,000 or more which would pay for an awful lot of lecie. I think something else is afoot. Not so long ago before the economic troubles one could invest and get a return much greater than the return on woodland. Perhaps i am smelling a rat when there isn't one there.

Re: Future plans...
Depending where you live woodland has always been very expensive, at least for the last 10 years I have been looking down here in Devon and in Hampshire.

Re: Future plans...
just maybe, people with money to burn need a safer place to invest their cash other than in commodities, stocks, shares etc. Do they think that the economic system is worse than they are telling us? The rich from all over the world were investing in property based in London thinking it was totally safe. After the riots they can now see the futility of that premise. Gold was seized by the american government in a past depression so what would be the best place to invest. If i had cash to invest it would go into agricultural land or woodland whilst the economic climate is like it is.
Re: Future plans...
I also think that people are now getting closer to nature, somewhere for them to relax with friends and family away from the rat race.
A nice piece of woodland, with a river/stream and a guerrilla garden would do me nicely.
Last year I missed out on 4 1/2 acres just like that within 2 miles of my house. It would of made the ideal BOL.
And as I do a lot of bushcraft/wild camping, my own space to do with as I wished would of been a dream come true.
Still looking

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

I think your right, over the last few years there seemed to have been a big increase in the number of people interested in getting ‘back to nature’.pseudonym wrote:I also think that people are now getting closer to nature, somewhere for them to relax with friends and family away from the rat race.

I'm only 21....... what you reckon the best way for me to prepare is?Beards wrote:Guys (and girls!),
I was wondering if you could help me, I'm at that age where I'm looking to plan for the long term future aside from having a BOB.
At the moment, I'm living in rented accomodation and about to move in with a friend which is miles cheaper and allow me to save a large amount of my wages. (I was worried about hiding my BOB in the house, etc but it turns out he's a prepper!).
Anyway, I was possibly thinking of saving up and buying some land, maybe some woodland somewhere as it's alot cheaper than buying a house.
If I did end up buying something like the attached link, would you think theirs scope to make a success out of it? And what sort of things would I be able to do on it? For example, build a BOL?
I know this sounds vague, but wondering if it would be worth doing some major research.

Re: Future plans...
I think everyone has their own particular angle on it, suppose it depends on your situation. If you live in the inner city you’re probably going to want to bug out when things get bad. Whereas somewhere quite rural it’s probably a different story.TimeisRunningOut wrote: I'm only 21....... what you reckon the best way for me to prepare is?
As for being younger I think it’s an advantage, it’s got its downsides mostly to do with money and living arrangements but at same time you can really get out of the system before you get into it.
