Neutralising tablets

Anyone tried neutralising tablets on water treated with Chlorine or Iodine does it really help remove the chemical taste? I am considering getting some as it might make it easier to ensure kids or the OH stay hydrated if there is ever a need to use it.

I used to add screech from Army rat packs - mind you that used to take the enamel off your teeth

If you are going to drink rather than boil/cook with it, add a powdered fruit flavoured drink or concentrate to it to take off the edge.

Just abou to commit to some purification tablets and neutralising tablets when - Chlorine or Chlorine Dioxide???? Anyone make a recomendation? As I undestand it Chlorine Dioxide are considered better at killing Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium?

You could use bleach and the smell/taste will dissipate over a period of time.

Check for the correct amounts and don't use scented bleach or any with other additives. I agree, add a powdered drink, hot or cold and Bob is your auntie's live in lover.

I have never used household bleach in purifying water simply because i do not know how much to put in and a wee bit apprehensive since i have already got ulcers and dont want anything else to corrode my insides out

so do you or anyone know how much bleach you should use in a litre of water ?

Yopu should be able to find the correct measurements with a quick google search.

The beauty is, you add one or two drops and if you can't smell the bleach after a period of time, then you add more. As the bleach kills the impurities it gets used up and that is why you can't smell it.

Once all the germs are killed the bleach retains it's odour for longer so you know not to add more. After about 24 hours the smell will have dissipated on it's own and the water is drinkable.

Like I say, just do a Google. That is not a euphamism.
