There is food, water and heat at home so all is fine there or if I have to cancel the night away despite losing money for the hotel. I have just packed extra warm clothes, cash in case of card machine failures, Yorkshire teabags, coffee portions, powerbanks for my phone and extra batteries for my torch. Hotels usually have emergency generators dont they? Will pack some snacks/pot noodles and my first aid pouch as I wont have the car and my first aid supplies. Travelling with a friend who thinks I am a bit bonkers but who doesnt even carry a packet of tissues. Yes this is a storm forecast not a tornado but being reliant on public transport, hotels and not having my usual preps immediately available makes me somewhat nervous.
You sound well prepared. Hope it goes smoothly. It’s funny how, since I’ve started prepping, I think very differently when I travel anywhere now - and carry a very differently filled bag …

Was planning on re-waxing a wax cotton jacket. However, a broken downstairs loo and then a burst radiator put paid to that..

But did make me realise I am lacking in basic plumbing tools. Need to fix that.

For emergency fixes

Length of PEX pipe in 15mm and 22mm

Copper rotary pipe cutters

Pipe cutter for PEX

Then a selection of fittings through stop valves are great for emergency flood stopping

A tool for the drill to remove paint from copper that fits on a drill is handy

Medusa, I hope its gone really well, your hotel has kept power, your trains weren't delayed, and you're having a smashing time :)

I'm snug at home - no power loss, all is well.

I had a power cut the other day, but it only lasted about 5 minutes. Everything just came back on. Was just about to check the trip switch.

Had a new board fitted recently by the way, the board that the incoming electricity goes to. Electricity North West fitted it. Didn't cost owt. They moved the smart meter onto it as well. I got it done because the old one was crumbling. I phoned them up, came out same night, and fitted it the next day. Trip switches are on a separate board, that's my responsibilty.

Been a while since I posted...

Just found out recently going to be made redundant, with leave still to take and Christmas only a few more days work this year.

Already been applying for jobs.

Am currently focusing on planning on what to do with redundancy, and 'spare' time, so far have got
-update first aid course, work did not offer and years since I did one
-replace a couple of old double glazed windows with triple glazed for insulation and noise
-need to go through all supplies for out of date, no longer relevant / needed
-greenhouse clear out

thankfully been at work long enough to get a decent package, and work has been awful last few months in particular, so happy to be going, prefer that to staying and dealing with the resultant horror show.

feel horrendous (and a bit cross/bemused) regarding younger colleagues with mortgages / still paying rent, and no savings, writing has been on the wall for a while, and openly discussed for years but somehow they failed to see it coming, failed to think it would impact them, and failed to do any planning for it. They are now focused on being angry, and protesting that work cannot do this to them, and union need to do something to stop it, several are desperate to stay despite the horror show it is , and only delaying the inevitable by a year/18 months at most, atmosphere is horrendous with animosity with colleagues desperately competing for the few remaining posts.

relieved to be going

Lack of savings is a big problem among younger people. Also they have to pay a lot in rent, or on a mortgage. Hate to say it but a lot of them are in a pretty precarious situation if work dries up.

Hi moominmama, I'm glad you're going to be okay, and your planning has been firmly in place. It does sound like you'd be better off out of it, but its hard to do. Hope the jobs market round you is useful.

Prepping for me (just realised I should update myself!) clearing bits of the house so the plumbers can come in tomorrow - hot water tank, boiler, under the sink. House is stuffed full, so that's not good

Driving still going well-ish, but not often enough. And I tried to strike out from my town yesterday, but the road was still blocked after a fatality last Saturday. Must have been a very bad situation, two side roads a mile apart were also blocked :(

Clearing the garden and digging up bramble roots (not just cutting back) is going well. The end of the garden has been left alone over most of last summer, I wanted to give the foxes somewhere to relax  so the worms have also been doing their thing, and the soil looks really well cared for

I've bought all the Christmas cards I need for the next two years, Waitrose had a sale, good quality and good size @ 10 for £2, 16 for £2.50. At this time of year! Bargain. Sister has an "in" there, and she says they just want rid of the stock to get things with higher margins in the warehouses and on the shelves. Fine by me
