Where to Buy Food

Ladies and prepper-man, lend me your advice,

I am preparing to spend about £500 on food stock, which I will be eating out of and replenishing at the same time. I have found a number of online boutiques offering bulk food, e.g. 25KG of oats, which are more expensive than I would have thought.

Does anyone have any recommendations for places to buy bulk food for the cheapest prices?

Yeah that site doesn't look bad, the 25KG bag of oats works out at £0.63 a KG, and ASDA Smartprice are 75p.

Didn't realise asda did them so cheap. However, I refuse to shop at big food.

I've just been looking at RealFood and across the board they are generally one of the cheapest places online. Quite a lot of things are 5, 10, 20 pounds cheaper than some of the other places I was looking at. And, all deliveries are free on order over £10. They don't seem that competitive in small quantities though.

Makro is where I go for any bulk purchases. You have to check their prices as sometimes they are not as cheap as you might think but generally they are good, especially on things like Rice etc

It may be a good idea to buy some bulk staples in the short term , but I would be inclined to shop locally and regularly to fill your pantry.Why?because you may find all that grub in one go overwhelming.Do you have a definite plan for storage?

I went to fill some gaps food wise yesterday.Tins mainly. £50 worth. It took half an hour rotating them,and I am organised.

Just summat to think about.

CC, i've heard NR go on about Makro, i thought it was a northern firm, so where are they ? in Devon?

There's one on the Marsh Barton Ind Estate in Exeter, I think it's the only one in Devon/Cornwall

I use Costco, much the same. Not sure of Approved Foods, if your life might depend on it then I'd want good wholesome well-in-date food.. Asda Smartprice is garbage but Sainsburys Basics is very very good.
Costco/Makro is great for whole trays of corned beef or spam (yeugh) or salmon. Also bulk cooking oils.

Agreed. ASDA Smartprice is utterly vile stuff.

Marks and Spencer for tins of meat - it's the best stuff. Lil - you been yet?
