Hello, all.
Having watched Doomsday Preppers and 11 Seasons of the Walking Dead during lockdown, I am already somewhat ready and as part of my business continuity plan purchased water purification and dried beans, pulses, some MRE and 60kg of broken basmati
Stopped short of mylar bags at this stage.
Since then got a few bargains like some camelbacks (we have lots of water near me) as a borehole seemed too costly.
I have a variety of airguns, spring and gas, for hunting small game, and teaching my boys to shoot, some fishing gear, machetes and axes, three tonnes of firewood, woodburner, a day van with camp toilet, solar shower and an Anker 2kw solar generator and fridge freezer (bought for work "exhibitions" ya know).
Other rando stuff like 30-40l alcohol gels... I know people who made it and got joblot deals as gift for queuing them sales during covid.
Luckily my areas has lots of birds and rodents around, huge park full of pigeons and squirrels and a lot of waterfowl too.
Clearing house of exes stuff and having more cabinets fitted, storage and a pantry to rotate goods.
If SHTF I plan to bug in at home or my company offices where many of my preps are. 1 mile apart.
For me bugging out is the higher risk... being trapped in queues of traffic with children and photo albums is not for me.
Family issue.... some of my loved one are at distance. Wrong side of M25 which would be even more of a disaster.
I maybe won't be so active posting, more likely lurking, but thanks for being a readily available resource for so many x
Being older and divorcing, other than work, remaining alive to protect my children is my highest priority and I know how lucky I am to be able to go the extra mile.
Five years ago this would have been impossible for me, but right now I think I am good for 2 or 3 months... or more.
Next step is med kits, iodine, debating NBC kit, fullers earth mitts etc.

Sounds like you're starting to get really well set up - have you practised gutting the birds etc? I've seen it once in real life, and seen it a lot more than that on Masterchef etc harder than it seems, I think. Loving the sound of your van!

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Welcome from the suburbs of Cheshire.
You have a head start, and I hope you have a few tonnes of curry to go with that rice.
Hunting and fishing gets a mention in another recent thread Straw poll...
Do tell us how balanced your food reserves are.

Graceful Degradation! Prepping's objective summed up in two words. Turning Disaster into Mild Inconvenience by the power of fore-thought

Hi all, thank you for the welcome! I don't know how to reply individually, but this is thanks to all
No curry, but lentils and spices and garlic powder, I do have some other weird and wonderfuls like tinned oils, MRE Maple buns and nuts and such. I get emails from preppershop (hope not a dirty word) and buy things that tickle my fancy. So balanced is not it at the moment, but I hope to learn more here.
I read lentils have protein and all nine aminos? I have seen some other interesting threads I will start to delve into.
I am not exactly hardcore, but I wanted to make sure I can deal with anything short-term for up to a few months, and then decide whether to eat a crossbow bolt or keep on trucking. Having watched so many disaster movies and other material there are some scenarios I don't really fancy the day to day struggle... I would prefer a big party and bow out, I think.
I don't tell people about preps, I do say when the topic comes up that everyone should have at least 2 weeks of food and water in case an "event" occurs, like WWII.
That is an amazing technique for dealing with birds... Personally I hope I don't have to go there, as I was a Pescatarian for about 18 years, but when SHTF I am not averse to eating anything, really, and I am a decent cook. I do have a strong survival instinct.
The van is cool... is a Vauxhall vivaro, converted with the rock and roll bed, so it sits 5 with seatbelts, good for camping trips and beach days. I wanted to get a pop-top fitted, so 2 can sleep in the roof, or 3 children, so potentially it would do 5 travellers without having to leave the vehicle.
I really do fancy one of those old flat bed 4x4 diesels with few parts, and the skills to repair, I thought about electric but batteries only last around 7 years? An armoured winnebago, mmmmmm. OK, Mad Max fan.
Kinda just playing at it, but serious enough to know my loved ones are in a better place than most people. A lot of people are just totally unaware of risks and how the world is playing out.
I would like to have a small holding really, chickens, trout pond, big bunker under a small house, solar, borehole or even better... a waterfall
Thanks again!

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Yes, I feel that bugging out is the greater risk in most circumstances.
