Happy New Year to you

This week I aim to go through all my stored food and sort it out. Use what needs using and identify any gaps.
I’ve been keeping some small but strong boxes and plan to put together some food packs we can grab just in case.
Smaller boxes for 24-48 hours, that will store well in our cars.
Bigger for a weeks worth including means to heat/cook it.
Past experience tells me the next 3 months could be problematic if we get heavy snow.
We often get snowed in, which is fine. But there have been occasions when I barely made it home.

Also hope to inventory all my non food preps, spot any gaps, and get it all sorted and boxed. We hope to be moving this year and that needs doing.
Prepping for lifes little mishaps, and some of the bigger ones as well.

Starting on the 1st we (Wifey & I) started an inventory of everything we have.
Day 1 we did our ‘stash’. 6 large totes of meds, food etc.
Day 2 was Wifey’s working meds, general meds & random other bits.
Day 3 was everything in the kitchen from the pantry & cupboards.
Tomorrow is the first aid kits (house, car, backpacks & workshop), fire extinguishers & fire blankets (house, car & workshop) & the bugout bag; we don’t intend to bugout but if we do have to evacuate for whatever reason then we’ve got something that’ll keep us going for a while.
Monday is workshop inventory day…just how many screws, nails & bolts have I got squirrelled away?

Well done! I am overdue for an inventory but having trouble getting the energy together to do it. While a camp in the woods BOB is not usually very much use a grab and go hotel or hospital bag makes life much easier when a 1am trip to A&E occurs or the police/fire knock on your door and say "Please can you evacuate right now".

It was a job that needed to be done & I definitely wasn’t looking forward to it but as soon as we started I got quite motivated.

The bugout bag is most definitely for the ‘knock on the door’ type of event; we’re not going to be ‘running to the hills’ if SHTF…there’d be too many others doing the same
We’ve got 3 other places to evacuate to that has food so the bag just contains meds, clothes, sleeping bags etc.

You have reminded me that the hospital & my daily backpacks need sorting out….& I’ve just remembered the blackout box!!

Well after two years scrimping and scraping all our preps are at minimum levels. We still have loss of power, gas etc supplies but food and money are at negligible levels although we still have enough pasta to last a good thirty odd years (must remember the store what you eat mantra when things become stable again). I say food stocks are negligible but thats neglibile for us on here, we are keeping around a week ahead the majority of the time it could be a lot worse than it is.

Just as a bit of background as to how we got here four years ago we had a car accident that has left my wife with multiple health problems, not long after I had to leave work from ill health. We coped for a while when then wife also had to stop working she had taken a job at vastly reduced rates of pay. So we find ourselves in this situation.

This year we plan to work on the wife's business she had a little start up company last year, made very little from it but it has allowed us to see where the cracks are and more importantly what she can and can't do anymore. If she was as anywhere near as healthy now as she was it would be flying already but ......... well baby steps and all that.

Our immeadiate plans include reorganising and taking stock of what we have in storage both prep wise and business wise, I've already made a start and will be doing more today, unfortunately the wife can't help very much but will do as much as she can. Any way thats enough procrastinating onwards and upwards.

Good news, slow and steady wins the race. You are only competing against yourselves.

I found having a week eating only stored goods made me check and rotate all my preps, save some money to buy more and really find out what I like and dislike. (main meals for brekkie was a winner)

I was talking about the state of our kitchen cupboards with t'other half today and I think I am going to try do do an "eat it up January" to reduce the number of older cans, half eaten packets and things that otherwise do not rotate well.

Aldhelm, I had no idea you and your wife were facing those sorts of problems. You're doing incredibly well to pay any attention at all to prepping, rather than getting through each day, and I really admire the determination to start up a new business, however "little", in the middle of all that. Hope its a roaring success.
