My take on PMs is that they are for investment only.I don’t think that many folk will be interested on bartering with them during a SHTF scenario, there may be some and some smaller value coins “might” be handy. Each to their own and we all prep for our own reasons and thinking. I only wish I had got into gold much earlier but the gold I have has increased between 30% to over 100% depending when I bought them.

Thats about where my reasoning is, PM's to store wealth. Any bartering will be with surplus or (preferably) skills.... In fact I'm already doing some skills bartering.Winterprep wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 4:06 pm My take on PMs is that they are for investment only.I don’t think that many folk will be interested on bartering with them during a SHTF scenario, there may be some and some smaller value coins “might” be handy. Me too, I bought a small quantity of gold scrap (9k) from a friend a couple of years ago. The gold content was about 2 grams or £90 spot at that time.... Now its around £150 (I know its melt value isn't that high )I only wish I had got into gold much earlier but the gold I have has increased between 30% to over 100% depending when I bought them.

The main reason for PMs is to hide your savings from TPTBWinterprep wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 4:06 pm My take on PMs is that they are for investment only.I don’t think that many folk will be interested on bartering with them during a SHTF scenario, there may be some and some smaller value coins “might” be handy. I spent a lot of money on beer and parties...... The rest I just wasted

Some of the silver I initially bought for way more then I should of paid is now a lot less overpriced

Just had a look at the PM spot prices thread.
Last week gold went up a tenner in two days. Not a wild swing, just noticeable
This week its gone up £45 overnight WTF?
Is it because a certain US president keeps saying whatever is on his mind?.... I know markets hate uncertainty and when things are unstable people buy trustworthy investments. Gold is a 'safe pair of hands'

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

OK, does it normally bounce around like that?

Re: PMs General Thread
I don't know about gold and silver in particular, but on a spreadbetting account, that would probably be an artefact, and any trades made on it would be null and void. Back in the day, anyway.
Re: PMs General Thread
"Currently, no countries operate on a pure gold standard. That means no government directly tethers physical gold to its currency's daily valuation or exchange rate on a fixed basis. This once-universal economic system has been replaced by a fiat currency experiment"
We as preppers/stackers must decide what our limits are and not worry about FOMO.
I am stacking for my Relatives futures, they just don't know it yet.
