Seeing heat loss around the door like that really proves how useful a thermal camera can be. And catching a potentially loose electrical connection? That alone makes it worth having. Ever find any surprising cold spots in the attic?Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 8:42 am Bought a second hand basic thermal imaging camera ....
Uses as a prepper checking insulation... seeing the effect of insulation or finding where it's missing in the attic
Finding loose electrical fittings job this .morning is check the ring main circuit breaker as it didn't look overly happy last night *hotter than the others with not much load* might be nothing but won't harm to get it checked and the wire fixings torqued up

Well today it happened the house completed
Heaven ! handed keys in at the estate agent all solicitors and agents paid ... and walked away ..without looking back !
In the bungalow now and really enjoying the peace and quiet
Watching squirrels and foxes play in garden ( not together
)
Really enjoying finding furniture that doubles up as storage moved from a big house massive garden with 2 sheds a summer house and a outhouse to a one bed bungalow
Coffee table with lift up lid had to buy wardrobes as were fitted at house but got them with drawers and shelves
Small space storage ideas at the top of my Google list
I do miss the duel fuel burner but I wont miss the heaving coal and chopping logs and wood itd all gone up in price massively and had letter through about the area being monitored for smoke and all about the fines it was time to go anyhow .... it gave me 16 of joy ...
Heres to the next stage of ..smaller ..prepping ...

Congratulations GeeGee. Hope it makes life much more pleasant for you. You have certainly earned a break in the chaos.

Thank you everyone
The covid learning curve for me was that the neighbours hated each other and couldn't care less and I was stuck there
Fights.. police ...people reporting each other here there and everywhere and when covid lockdowns finished noone even looked at each other ..there was no pulling together there it was awful and stayed awful
Where I am now is great
No neighbours I dont see anyone but a district nurse popping into someplace across the road
I'm 5 mins on foot away from the leeds Liverpool canal and a lovely nature reserve and miles of woodland
Wanting a night vision camera to catch the wildlife now
I do have some night vision goggles but want to see what I'm missing when asleep

Congrats.

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

I don't have that, but I have a thermometer that you point at a wall, window or floor, and it gives a surface reading. Seems pretty accurate. I have walked around checking for cold areas. I also have digital thermometers around the house that mostly transmit to my phone and computer. I put on in the prep room low down next to the external wall.timmyt79 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 11:21 amSeeing heat loss around the door like that really proves how useful a thermal camera can be. I was watching videos about life in China yesterday, and happened to see one about Japan. I was surprised to learn that mostly they don't have central heating in houses. Mostly they tend to just heat the main living/dining room. Obviously hotels have AC.
But the Japanese have discovered something they call heat shock, that can kill you. It can cause a stroke. You can get it from going to a warm room to an unheated bathroom, and then getting into a hot bath.
