Had a conversation about a science topic just now with Chat GPT, that was interesting! It's like "you're right to bring that up" and types a load more. Apparently they can read a research paper in seconds. Like Google, but it can actually think.

I used chat gpt to get a synopsis on the book 'The Fourth Turning'. If the book hasn't already been discussed here and you pay attention to politics, particularly whats going on now, I'd recommend it.

I asked chatgpt if the theory in the book was a bit northern hemisphere biased. "That is a great question' was the response, apparently it's easy to flatter my ego

I'll check it out. I think there is a risk of collapse, but I think the main cause will be resource overshoot. Ecological for sure, and possible certain metals and minerals. AI itself could become a threat. Another big threat is disinformation, spread on social media, and occasionally by the mainstream media. It is true that many civilisations have collapsed in the past.

Finally finished adding mains to my shed currently running off a 13a plug in the kitchen as we rent so can't go hacking into the ring main and technically if I did that I'd need to get the council to sign it off

So run some heavy duty ho7rnf flex down the hedge side (it's tough stuff) 1.5mm2 which is rated at 16amp so more than big enough for a 13a load

Into the shed added 2x double sockets and 2x led lamps via a fuse switched spur to protect the 2x led dome lamps one of which is has an emergency battery back up if the power is unplugged or in a power cut it'll run for 3hrs all in waterproof / splash proof fittings and outlets all glanded to maintain water resistance

This doubles up my solar as during the winter it really struggles

All tested by my friendly Sparky whilst we had a Beer just classed as an extension lead

The tumble drier is in there and that's the main reason a nice safe/ big connection (not that it draws that much its a heat pump version) and the wife can run her pond filter unit without needing to pull a extension lead out every time

BBC has pulled its BBC2 documentary How To Survive A War Zone, following complaints, but you can still watch it on X. Starts with a 13 year old kid saying "could you survive this?" "Let me tell you our story. Who knows, one day, you might need it." Very much a real life survival film preppers should find interesting, from the sound of it. First bit is people bugging out in a hurry, some running, sound of gunfire, one woman is carrying a mattress on her head. Kid narrates in perfect English, but some of the people he speaks to speak in Arabic, and subtitles are shown. Filming is very high quality.

Yeah apparently it follows four kids, and a paramedic. I just saw a bit about the kid who helps ambulance drivers, and stays in a hospital. He does have family, but says they have no food or water. He likes volunteering. The paramedic is his mentor.
