Digging a hole 😉
Digging a hole 😉
So I want to dig a big hole, but before I start. The question is where the heck to I get rid of all the earth ? I don't have the land space to spread it out, plus it's all clay 1 inch below.
Re: Digging a hole 😉
It's gonna be hard digging if it's clay. How big do you want the hole to be?

Well, as they’ve added a
to the title of the post, I think they might be digging a bunker!
Anyhow, clay is tough going. First of all, use some to make a wood fired clay oven. Another source of cooking.
Then order a skip or two or bag it up and make several trips to your local tip!

All depends as the shed is fulI. I thought I could start with the aim to make the slab path to the shed into hinged lid with carboot hinges and gas struts. Then, have a 2mm or 3mm sheet steel box under that. Maybe larger if its not a nightmare removing the clay. Just experimenting/mulling over the idea.

You may be able to shift the topsoil if it's any on Facebook marketplace. Free to collect type thing.

Also, presumably you want to keep some to cover over the metal box? If it's clay it's probably pretty good at blocking radiation.
Re: Digging a hole 😉
dig another hole to put the spare earth in. It'll need t be twice as big, of course, so you've got somewhere for the earth from the second hole.
Or more seriously, give it way on FB marketplace.

Just do what the people we bought our house from did, pile the soil into a mound, add some stones and call it a rockery. We got rid of the stones two weeks ago, the holes aka ponds got filled in when we moved in due to the children 26 years ago
Growing old disgracefully!
