I asked Herself, Pyracanthus doesn't mind shade and is on the 'pokey' end of the spectrum

Planted this a few years ago in the front garden behind the low wall. We came home on a couple of occasions to find people sitting on the wall. They dont sit there now and the hedge is really thick and spiky, in fact better than the Hawthorn between us and next door. It looks really nice too, if that matters.ForgeCorvus wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 6:43 pm I asked Herself, Pyracanthus doesn't mind shade and is on the 'pokey' end of the spectrum
Growing old disgracefully!

Some preps I like others ..I have to do ...
As the squirrels vacated the loft ..deceased ..got the new insulation down ..then yesterday noticed blooming wasps going in through a small crack above the door ..straight to the loft ..its a bungalow. .. I know its empty but didn't expect more lodgers so soon plus its a nightmare opening the external door to come in and out as they are dive bombing me
Only one door unless I start jumping out of the bedroom window
Didn't seal it up as I did read that it makes the wasps insane and they'll find another way in ..bought the poison powder and managed to get some inside the entry/exit point in the hope they take it to nest and contaminate it ..
For fear of repeating myself yet again this week I need to sort these buggers out and kill more of the animal / insect world
...
Any ideas people please before I ring my new found friend the pest control man ... saw him every Wednesday for 7 weeks...and he likes to talk
So ...any more ideas how to get rid of the new lodgers ....
YA you are bound to have something here ..

I've put the ivy trimming off til October. Bit worried about birds nesting. He said they check, and there'd be no charge if they found a nest and had to postpone, but I'd rather wait and be on the safe side. Seems like a good company, anyway, I'll definitely go back to them. It's only a few months. I could get them to do the hedge at the same time. I'll give that a light trim in between now and then.
Not found a gardener, so I'll do the lawn myself for now.
Spent days trying to get a tiny splinter out of my thumb. In the end I carefully used a razor blade, almost parallet to the surface. Think it's gone now.
Did my 4th bike ride of the year. I don't ride in the cold now due to Reynauds, so the season starts in April. Forgot my water and had to go back!

Get some wasp nest spray....
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D258CHGV/ ... p13NParams
WAIT TILL DARK!
Ideally you need to find the nest in the attic and apply it directly to soak the nest...
If it's only the Hole you need to keep powdering it every night after dark (they all go back to the nest at night and are hardly active ) no point doing it during daylight as they are out terrorising picnics and beer gardens
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Next time use Ichthammol ointment (black jack or black drawing salve) does the job easily.Frnc wrote: ↑Sat May 10, 2025 3:11 pm I've put the ivy trimming off til October. Wasps are an issue here but we deal with them by using washing up liquid and water in a garden sprayer. Soak the nest, knock it down, job done. We also hang an empty semi inflated brown jiffy bag/envelope up in their vicinity. The wasps think it is a hornets nest and avoid the area. Works a treat with our yellow jackets.GeeGee wrote: ↑Sat May 10, 2025 2:58 pm For fear of repeating myself yet again this week I need to sort these buggers out and kill more of the animal / insect world...

Around our beehives this year we are using wasp traps filled with beer, small piece of meat and a dash of white wine for our Spring/Summer. Yet to work out the Autumn mix.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12
There's a lot on this page about wasps that I've never heard of ... sorry you're going through it, GeeGee, that's really not nice
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 12
Some great tips there thank you all ...
Just been out in the dark with my poison ..
Have some fairy liquid in a bottle ..the killer foam to be delivered tomorrow
Bet the remaining squirrel is having a laugh at me
Arzosah ..yes .. and thank you ... in a matter of a few months we have been educated on how to kill off squirrels even freeze and eat them ..determine rat and squirrel poo ...and how to do the wasps in
Hopefully the loft space in this bungalow will stay vacant after this ....
( I'd still take all this over the neighbours I had before I moved )
But prefer not to
