Storm's arrived. Horizontal rain here in Manchester. Someone was supposed be going up a ladder to look at the pointing. Can't see that happening.

Seven Seas lifeboat ration bars arrived, to replace ones in BOB. Date Feb 2030. Some ebay sellers advertise the dates. This one said "BBE 2029 or better". I put the date in my expiry date spreadsheet.

Hope all are safe in the affected areas.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Pointing guy actually turned up, but understandably wouldn't go up a ladder. He took photos, which you can zoom, and said he'd look at them closer on his computer. There's not much needs doing. He said it's not urgent. And I think he can do it without scaffolding. So hopefully the quote won't be too high. He's booked up til next year. I don't have any leaks, fingers crossed, and I can check things inside the loft now.

He did some pointing inside the loft a few months ago, just where it was missing. It's single skin, so a bit of a concern. I went up there recently and inspected around the purlins, and tested some of the old mortar. It's soft. I mentioned this to him. He didn't seem concerned. It's supposed to be softer than modern mortar. I might get him to do some more inside at some point. Two of the three purlins have limited access though, due to the suspended floor.

Anyway, nothing serious or urgent. I'm going to fit lap vents myself. Cheap and easy.

Power came back on at some point in the night, Internet will likely be restored today.
Pleased that 20yo & 18yo children entirely unfazed by lack of power & Internet pages, headtorches & guitars came out and life went on. All be it slightly out of tune & time.

I'm glad people seem okay, and taking it in their stride.
