What to do with grapes..

Post by GeraldTheBonzai »

Ok, looking for some suggestions.

The vines have been pretty productive this year, so trying to work out what to do with the grapes. Now, the obvious is to turn them into wine or juice, but I don't have the kit (or to be honest, the space to have things fermenting). So, any suggestions?

Had thought of turning them in to raisins. But they are seeded.

Thoughts?

Jam is great for surplus grapes they're high in pectin so perfect for it
Grape juice if you've got a juicer put some other fruit in and experiment with it all
Failing that I'll be round and eat the lot I love grapes..
Can freeze them also but when they defrost they're not as hard as they were.

Freeze them to add to glasses of wine, they help chill and add to the taste.

We went the obvious route with our crop and turned them into wine , well we're currently turning them into wine as it's bubbling away now along with the cider. As for equipment other than a demijon and airlock there's very little else needed that isn't normal kitchen equipment. We put them through a juicer but later I picked another half bucket I had missed and rather than get the juicer out again I just used a potato masher.

Having come home with a couple of buckets of plums I'm now asking myself this same question of "what to do with" , wine , jam and pies seem near the top of the list...

Quite a lot of our plums ended up as fruit leather - but it doesn't keep well. It tastes too nice.

If you don't want to have to deal with seeds and skins, grape jelly (the jam like stuff made from juice, not the stuff you put in trifles )
Leathers are always good too
