The government have an army and armed police. Doubt they'd bring them in to raid my kitchen though.

Although in the proposed scenario it's the government who would be entering and as pointed out they have armed police and an army armed with weapons a tad better than a shotgun. You may get the first few shots in but ultimately in this scenario you're going to come second.
If it's a case of defending against the hoards in some sort of government gone situation then it probably comes down to numbers , if it's an organised gang then the results would probably be the same. Anyway I can't help thinking that a government would hold on to power a lot longer than many think and if or when it collapses most people will have worked through their preps by the time it happens.
All of course hyperthetical ....

I'm starting to wonder about a drone, to be honest. Though, my ham radio neighbour is so seriously unwell he can't really talk much any more, and I'm seriously wondering about upping my comms. It's all very basic because of him and his 50 foot aerial
Mind you, when you see what drug smugglers do with drones in UK prisons, I'm sure a drone could be used as a comms link as well Sorry! I'm not a drug smuggler, I promise
